The weather failed to put the brakes on hundreds of car enthusiasts flocking to Croxley Green for a classic car show on Sunday.

The Classics on the Green saw more than 150 cars attend the annual event held by Watford and District Classic Vehicle Trust at Croxley Green this weekend.

Watford Observer:

However, the number of cars that attended the event was down, with over 350 fewer cars than previous years.

Kevin France, chief treasurer at Watford and District Classic Vehicle Trust said: "It is well known that people with classic cars do not go out in wet weather.

"All in all, it was quite successful with the cars that turned up and the public turned up in their droves.

"The Classics on the Green has always been known as a great social event where owners of classic cars can come and meet each other."

Vintage cars, such as Jaguars and 1960’s Morgans were joined by unique cars such as "one of three electric Peugeot 106."

The cars were organised upon arrival and parked next to one another, meaning that cars were not organised based on their model, year or make.

The bonnet of the electric Peugeot was open and people were walking up to it and expected to see a petrol engine, but were surprised when they found an electric engine and a motor.

Watford Observer:

Custom-made cars, long-established British classics and American imports, such as Chevrolets and American muscle cars also attended Croxley Green because Watford and District Classic Vehicle Trust allowed any car "that is interesting."

All the money raised throughout the event will be given to charity.

Kevin added: "Hopefully we will break even.

"50 per cent of the money raised goes to the big national charities and 50% goes to the local charities."

Watford and District Classic Vehicle Trust supports national charities such as DIABETIS UK, Leukaemia Research Fund and local charities such as The Peace Hospice Watford and Playskill.

The event, which was held on Croxley Green, started at 10am and finished at 4pm.
