A Winter Olympian and five-time British national ice dance champion joined Watford residents on the newly installed Watford ice rink.

Marika Humphreys-Baranova took to the ice in The Parade on Thursday and gave skating tips to the public.

The 37-year-old paired with other skaters and taught them how to turn, start, stop, sit down and stand up on ice.

Watford Observer: She has recently launched a website, www.iceskating.london to encourage more people to take up ice skating.

Marika Humphreys-Baranova said: "I am trying to make my website a service portal for people to find out about ice skating in and around London to encourage participation in our sport.

"I love ice skating and I think a lot of people would love it if they had a go at it and could understand it better.

"It is still very much a minority sport and it would be great if people could have a go, learn about it and then learn to love it."

Marika met her husband, Vitaliy Baranova, while performing together in Blackpool and they then went on compete together at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
