TWO partially sighted tenpin bowlers are going for gold - after being selected to represent Great Britain in the sport’s world championships.

Derek McGee and Chris Jeal, pictured above, are both members of Galloway’s Society for the Blind in Morecambe and have been chosen among the elite 20 of more than 200 visually impaired bowlers from across the country.

The squad, will be whittled down to just 10 in September in readiness for the international competition in Florida next June.

Galloway’s development worker Tony Kimpton told the Citizen: “Chris and Derek play regularly in the Galloway’s team in the British Blind Sport summer and winter leagues.

“Derek also plays in a sighted league at the Morecambe Superbowl and for us to have two players in this championship squad is a tremendous achievement.

“Both Chris and Derek put in a great deal of practice and deserve their selection for the national team.”
