A Burger King customer had a nasty surprise on Saturday when she discovered a caterpillar nestling in her burger.
Mother-of-two, Samantha McInulty, of Dumfries Close, South Oxhey, was tucking into her Chicken Royale at the fast-food restaurant in High Street, Watford when she made the shocking discovery.
In disbelief she immediately took the burger back to the counter in the hope of an apology.
Mrs McInulty said: “When I saw the hairy creature sitting on the lettuce I freaked out and took the burger straight to the manager but he didn’t say anything and passed it on to someone else to deal with.
“An assistant then told me that the burgers come in to the restaurant already prepared and it wasn’t their fault.”
The teaching assistant had popped into Burger King for lunch with her husband and their two young children.
She added: “The next thing I knew a £5 note was forced into my hand. The service I received was disgusting. I had no apology whatsoever. If they thought my children were going to sit there and carry on eating their meals they were wrong.”
Mrs McInulty has vowed never to eat at a Burger King restaurant again.
She has since taken her complaint to Burger King’s head office where she was informed that she ‘may receive some vouchers’.
She added: “I don’t want their vouchers as we are never going back.”
A Burger King spokesman said: “Burger King takes the health and safety of its customers and staff extremely seriously. We are grateful that this has been brought to our attention and we are currently investigating this claim.’”
