School children to benefit from bus deal

School children travelling on the newly re-launched bus service in Abbots Langley can take advantage of a special half term deal next week.

The 318 bus route was taken over by Watford coach firm Mullany’s on Monday and following this the company will put on a special offer for children using the service during their school holiday.

Youngsters with a SaverCard will be able to travel from Abbots Langley to Watford town centre for £1 return.

Mullany’s director Kevin Crawford said: “We’ve had some fantastic feedback already. There are some very supportive people in Abbots Langley which I think proves that this is a vital link for them to get into Watford quickly.

“We’ve only been running the service for several days we have rolled our sleeves up and we are going to give it our best shot.

He added: “The offer we have on next week is all about the children. Instead of relying on mum or dad to drop them into Watford and then pick them up they can travel independently. Parents can save on petrol knowing their children are travelling safely.”

Watford Mayor Dorothy Thornhill said: “The real credit here goes to Kevin for coming forward and recognising a true community need. He is a good local operator, a Watford resident and is willing to give this route a go. Operating company Metroline gave us excellent drivers and a real community spirit and I think that will be kept alive by Mullany’s.

“The message here is use it or lose it. Let’s make sure that someone who has come forward willing to do this is not let down. Get on the bus, let your children use it, it’s a quid a kid next week so make the most of it.”

During half term children can catch the red bus from the village into Watford after 11am. They must show their SaverCard to the driver and ask for a £1 special return.
