Watford Ladies boss John Salomon was pleased with “another good result” after his side battled to a 1-1 draw against Manchester City.
A goal from Sarah Wiltshire put the Hornets in front but City fought back to claim a share of the points with an equaliser from Sarah Danby.
Salomon stated Watford’s defensive work played a key role in the draw.
He said: “I thought we were the better team first half and City had a good second half. But we felt we could have got at them and played to our strengths a bit more.
“But as City grew into the game and maybe had more of that second half, I was pleased with the way we restricted them, and to come away with a point against a very good side, is another good result.”
The opening half of the contest was a cagey affair with few meaningful chances created by either side.
However, the Hornets broke the deadlock on 19 minutes as Wiltshire slotted past City keeper Danielle Brown after a clever knock down by Jo Wilson.
Both sides exchanged chances as Rebecca Lee headed over for the visitors before Watford winger Kate Natkiel shot over.
City started the second period the stronger and produced several efforts which flew just wide and over keeper Lauren Davey’s goal.
Watford defender Georgia Mays was then forced to make a last ditch tackle to prevent a City goal but Manchester City drew level just after the hour.
Danby fired a stinging shot past Davey that the Hornets keeper could do nothing about.
Neither side could carve out a clear chance to snatch a winner but in the final minute Davey reacted well to deny Carly Bayley and ensure the points were shared.
Elsewhere, Watford Ladies Under-16s completed a 5-0 win over Woburn Lionesses with Amber (3) and Gemma (2) both on the scoresheet.
Watford Ladies Wasps Under-15 defeated Evergreen 2-1 with Meg Walsh scoring both of the Hornets goals.
The Under-12s secured a 5-0 win at St Albans City North with Gemma, Elly, Roma and Holly (2) finding the net.
Watford’s Under-10s completed a 2-0 win over Berkhamsted Raiders with Grace scoring both goals.
