Victorious Garston Ladies Under-11 Mets continue their County Cup march
5:45pm Thursday 1st November 2012 in Sport
Garston Ladies Under-11 Mets progressed into the County Cup semi-final after claiming a 2-1 extra-time win against Harvesters.
Following a goalless opening period, Mets went ahead in the second half when Nicole Brimble fired home.
Harvesters fought back and levelled but the Mets continued to push forward and Abbie Lafayette’s superb extra-time goal was enough to seal their passage into the last four.
Elsewhere, the Under-10s extended their lead at the top of the league to six points after also defeating Harvesters 2-1.
First-half goals from Nicole Zermani set up the victory and despite conceding late on, Garston saw the match out to secure the win.
Despite a strong performance, the Under-11 Diamonds went down 3-1 against league leaders Knebworth Youth. Mia Ford scored for Garston.
A goal from Tegan Davies proved nothing more than a consolation for the Under-12s as they suffered a 7-1 defeat to Hitchin Belles Blues.
The Under-13s were also beaten, with Hampstead securing a 4-1 win.
After going three goals behind, Ellie Fitzgibbons pulled one back for Garston before Hampstead netted a fourth.
Garston Ladies Under-15 Mets and Under-15 Diamonds met for the second time this season and once again it was the Mets who came out on top. Diamonds held their own for long periods of the contest but went in at the break 3-0 behind after a brace from Lauren McKenzie and a Lauren Berryman goal.
Diamonds were unlucky not to score on a number of occasions in the second period but Mets defended well and saw out the game.
