Bedmond beating lifts Kings Langley Ladies up to second

Kings Langley Ladies moved up to second in Beds & Herts Girls & Women’s League Division Three after securing a 2-0 win against Bedmond Ladies.

Langley started brightly, with April Langton and Amy Earthrowl both seeing efforts saved in the opening stages of the encounter.

Their early pressure paid dividends as Langton broke the deadlock on four minutes with a fierce drive from 25 yards.

Nicole Barrett doubled the lead soon after with her strike going in off the post.

The two goals spurred Bedmond into action and they started to attack their opponents with conviction.

After 17 minutes the home side were given a penalty and a chance to reduce the deficit. However, Vicki Taylor got down to her right to save the effort and preserve Kings’ two-goal lead.

The visitors re-established their control on the game and came close to adding a third goal but Sam Walters, Meg Burrows and Kim Nield could not find the net.

The second period saw Bedmond exert a long spell of pressure that saw 12 corners in their favour. But Kings held out, as Jade North marshalled the side and Taylor produced several saves.

Kings weathered the storm and finished the match strongly as Nield broke free on the right but saw her shot go into the side netting, while Earthrowl had an effort well saved.

Although they couldn’t find a third goal, Langley recorded an important victory ahead of their clash against league leaders Bishop Stortford Town Ladies this weekend.
