Paul Fagan stars in Tabard romp
4:00pm Friday 2nd November 2012 in Sport
A hat-trick of tries from Paul Fagan helped Tabard to their biggest win of the season as they defeated Grasshoppers 47-5.
Tabs started the game well but went behind as their opponents found space in the defence to cross the line.
However, that proved as good as it got as Tabard then took control, with Fagan going over for the first time. Stand-off Jack Reilly converted.
Prop Wilf Lake then touched down following a forward rumble and two Reilly penalties brought the half-time score to 20-5.
After the turnaround, Tabard exerted most of the pressure but Grasshoppers defended well.
However, Tabard were in the ascendancy and Lake picked up his second try in a similar fashion to the first before Reilly went over. He actually initiated the move with a surging upfield break but Grasshoppers’ defence pulled him down just short. However, the ball was recycled and Reilly was back in position to take the scoring pass for the try, which he converted.
Fagan then crossed the line once again after a continuous Tabard attack and followed it minutes later with his hat-trick try.
In the dying moments, Cam O’Connor touched down after centre Gerry Arasa made the initial yards to complete Tabard’s scoresheet and give them a fine win.
