6:40pm Thursday 8th November 2012 in Sport
Little Hay Golf Club’s Michael Burton rounded off the season with victory in two junior competitions and received the club’s order of merit.
Burton had an unbeatable week, winning both the Stroke Play and the Stableford competition by narrow margins.
In the Stableford event he claimed top spot just ahead of Ryan Howe in second, with Hamish Jarvie rounding off the top three.
In was similarly close in the Stroke Play tournament.
Burton finished on 69 points, one ahead of Will Butler in second, while Will Howe took third with 71.
Burton’s performances meant he triumphed in the order of merit – a trophy which is awarded to the player who finished highest in all the competitions of the year.
He also won the prize for being the most improved player of the year.
Jamie McIvor, winner of the Junior Championship and Cup earlier in the season, came second in the order of merit.
Meanwhile, John Leahy came out on top in the men’s medal Division One. He held off the challenge of Steve Pinnock in second and third-placed Jim Lochead.
In Division Two, Brian Ridgeway took top spot with 69 points, while Stephen Rutherford finished second on 72. Rolf Stammeijer rounded off the top three.
The senior men were in action on Tuesday for the seniors’ captain’s charity.
The side played a Texas Scramble competition followed by a lunch and raised £300 for Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care.
