Watford chief executive Scott Duxbury says South-West corner of Vicarage Road should be complete by July

The South-West corner of Vicarage Road Stadium should be completed by July next year, Watford chief executive Scott Duxbury has said.
Work on the development started almost five years ago but the Hornets lacked funds and it remains unfinished.
However, Duxbury said: “We are in very advanced discussions with our partner, who at this time would like to remain anonymous.
“We would like to conclude contracts for that development by the end of November or the beginning of December, with working commencing in January or February and it being available by June or July next year.
“That would include moving the changing rooms and two new hospitality developments as well. That is our plan for this year and we are close to concluding those contracts.”
Duxbury was speaking at last Thursday’s fans’ forum where he once again reiterated the club’s average attendance would need to reach around 15,000 if they were to redevelop the East Stand.
The chief executive also expressed his desire to move the family section out of the Vicarage Road Stand and replace it with cash turnstiles.
Duxbury said: “What I would like to do next season is potentially move the Family Stand to the Lower Rous and have a look at maybe offering some unreserved seating and cash turnstiles.
“I do think there is a demand for that and we could put that where the Family Stand currently is. I would like to do that at the start of next season.”
There was a rumour circulating Watford were planning to increase their season-ticket prices by 30 per cent from next season.
But when asked about it at the fans’ forum, Duxbury replied: “Would you pay 30 per cent more? Ok, then that is a no. We haven’t even looked at season-ticket prices. I want to increase attendances, not penalise those who already come so I wouldn’t anticipate an increase.”
Vicarage Road Stadium is at the heart of the proposed multi-million pound health campus in West Watford.
The plans include the regeneration of Watford General Hospital, the creation of hundreds of new homes and potentially 1,600 new jobs in the area. A new access road to the M1 is also expected.
On the impact of the health campus in relation to Watford FC, Duxbury said: "Potentially it could be fundamental.
"Effectively, the town centre of Watford would shift towards the football club. The front of the stadium would effectively flip and we might be able to have on-site car parking for the first time.
"It could be huge for the club and we are making sure we are in the discussions, we are party to all the relevant decision making and as and when the development occurs, and the various phases are implemented, you can rest assured the club will be in prime position to take advantage.
"The potential of that development is not lost upon us and could be really beneficial for the football club."

I'm going to the wolves match, also went to millwall and Brighton. This despite the fact I can barely afford to come. This time last year I didn't go to any home games, intact last season I only went to two matches all season. The point I make is that some of us can't afford season tickets or don't regularly have Saturday's off, and the fact that our team is so much better than last year and that the club is moving in the right direction gives supporters like me much more impetus to get to the games. I'm so excited by the direction the club is heading, I can't understand the negative posters, although their posts are becoming fewer and further between!
Given the miserable state the country is in, isn't it great to be part of a project like this which brings excitement and anticipation in to peoples struggles in life?
The Pozzos deserve to have a 15,000 minimum at each gate, How can we make it happen?

Nearly there as far as the football is concerned but it's not until January that I expect Zola's rotation policy to really start paying dividends, our depth is unmatched in this league.
Like you I'm in a position where football is barely affordable, unfortunately it has as much or more to do with transport costs for many of us than it does for what I feel are quite reasonable admission charges and I wonder if more could be done with local train and coach companies by way of subsidy and dare I mention it "car pooling" ... we have this wonderful thing called the internet yet it is rare to see such sites that bring together the fans. If I were in IT I'm sure it could be a winner but naturally people will need to face their social phobias first.

It can also be used for home games bringing in people from outlying areas of Watford ie All the surrounding counties Counties plus North and North West London.
Sharing motoring costs between four people will reduce everybody's costs. Could also have social benefits in helping people who live alone make contact will fellow supporters and improve their morale.
If Watford fc could find a responsible individual to coordinate it on the web site and internet.
A data base could be set up:
Drivers
Spaces available
Locations
Passengers
And so on
Once set up it just needs to managed and coordinated.

Some of us are having it tough in these finanacilly difficult times , but coming to watch a simple match of a team you love that is playing beautiful winning football ,can lift your spirit and make life so much easier.
There are thousands of Watford fans like matty just waiting to be entertained.
Get the product right , GZ is doing this now and it won't be long before we sell out every game, espiecially if we are at the top of the league.

I'm going to Blackpool and Burnley by coach mind!
I really think pay on the day will help boost figures And this family 40 ( 2 adults and 2 kids) is a brilliant idea.

Maybe a buy one game get another half price, which will encourage some to come back.
Yes, cash turnstiles, Yes unalocated seating in areas of the ground, yes deals with local bus and train companies for subsidised rates on match days to ticket holders. All should be fully considered to get the support back.
There is nothing like a full Vicarage Road, even if only 3 sides.

All good feedback and as mentioned these guys are exploring every avenue with regards to bringing success to our club and making it as feesable as possible for all fans to be involved. Times are extremely tough for many, but the club needs to know that they have the fanbase waiting if they can can the pricing etc right.

i do also think watford fc should offer locl school children in primary schools tickets for £1.00 if with a paying adult. kids are the future...if 2-3 get together they come every week and like me 30 years on i still meet up with those i went to away games with when i was 12-13 years of age. Parking is a big issue too as no local good disabled parking around...ive been to coventry and derby and both brilliant for disabled parking. Can you put this of your list lutondown when you have your pozzo meeting ?
Seriously, I will motion that as you are the special one, a chauffeur comes picks you up on match days, free hospitality and match tickets etc etc.
But really seriously, I think the whole disabled thing needs looking at. I have been a Carer for a friend in a wheel chair and its pretty poor that they are stuck out in the elements at pitch level. Surely there must be scope to get them under shelter at an elevated part of the ground? New SW Corner?

I have a friend who works at the club and people are a little concerned about mr duxbury so don't be surprised if we hear some sour grapes coming out from employees, but everything that they/he have said and done to date and backed by the Pozzo's has been spot on - cash turnstile would really help draw back the floating attendees.

Maybe for next season the whole lower Rous Stand should be left as an incentive zone where you have all the seats un reserved and the 2 adults and kids £40 deal is where they sit along with local school freebies or bring a kid for a £1 on a full price adult ticket and discounted tickets deals which can run alternatively every home game?
Vic Road end as cash on the day, upper Rous reserved seating and the middle two sections of the Rockery end being unreserved seating and vocal zone?
Just a suggestion as our current ground situation makes it hard to accommodate all these factors.
If we can market ourselves and get people to games from a radius of 10 miles away from Watford we can then attract a bigger support base?
Then if we can get attendances to 15,000 + we will get a new East Stand which will make our stadium look worthy along with being able to accommodate all our fans: Kids/Disabled/famili
es/vocal zones/discount zones etc etc properly!
