Chris Ashton's chances of starting for England against Australia have received a boost after rival winger Ugo Monye was released back to Harlequins.

Ashton's place looked in doubt yesterday when England attack coach Mike Catt stated the Saracens winger's place in the starting line-up was not guaranteed.

England Head Coach Stuart Lancaster said: “We had to make some tough decisions within the 23 and we are in a good position to be able to select from a largely fit squad.

“It is tough on Ugo, who misses out this time, but Chris (Ashton) has been excellent in training and Charlie is rewarded for his performance at the weekend.”
