Steve Finn will miss England’s first Test against India in Ahmedabad, captain Alistair Cook has confirmed.
The Watford-born bowler looked set to be ruled out after missing training yesterday following the thigh injury he sustained in the opening warm-up game against India A and will now concentrate on getting himself fully fit for the second Test in Mumbai next week.
“Steven will not be available for tomorrow’s Test,” said Cook. “It would be too big a risk.
“It’s come a little bit too early, he’s made fantastic progress with the injury and it’s come on better than we thought.
“But unfortunately he’s not going to make it, especially in these conditions, with a guy who’s not 100 per cent fit and who hasn’t bowled.”
With Stuart Broad expected to play after recovering from a heel injury, Tim Bresnan now looks likely to be given the nod for the last bowling place in the team.
