Saracens back row and Scotland captain Kelly Brown says he is encouraged by his national team's recent showing against New Zealand as he prepares for Saturday’s clash with South Africa at Murrayfield.

The Scots were beaten 51-22 by the All Blacks last Sunday but Brown is confident that the three tries his side scored against New Zealand will stand them in good stead against the Springboks.

"In patches we played well but as soon as we switched off and sat off them they made us pay," admitted Brown.

He continued: "For us, looking forward, we've learned our lessons and we know that we need to be consistent for the full 80 minutes.”

Brown will come head-to-head with Sarries team mate Schalk Brits on Saturday as the South African looks to add to the three caps he has already.

The 31-year-old will be looking to prevent a repeat of the last time the two nations met in November 2010, a game which the Scots won 21-17 thanks to an inspired kicking performance from Dan Parks.

It’s an occasion which Brown can remember fondly: "The fact that we won last time, they'll be looking for a bit of payback I'm sure.

"It's up to us to make sure we nail a really high level of performance, make it happen and do the nation proud."

Kick off on Saturday is at 2.30pm.
