'Nobody can say it wasn't a deserved win' (From Watford Observer)

We just ned to kill teams off earlier in the game, nerves can't stand the holding on at the end syndrome !

Great to see so many friends (old and new) in the pub and lounge yesterday..... The spirit is back !!

Also need to get another 1500 horns in the door .... Thought wed get at least 14000 yesterday do was little disappointed with 13500 gate, only 11500 horns, rally your friends, if we want a new stand the team can do no more than win ands do it easy on the eye, the floating fans need to come back

I agree....just bring a friend. How hard can that be.

It's time for Zola to start fining midfielders who shoot or miss obvious passes when the forwards are better placed, regardless of if they go on to score .... not only is there more chance of goals but having our strikers doing it has a big impact on their confidence levels and their value.

Agree on both posts. On the family forty days it's got to be a no brainer to bring along some one else.
I do think Yeates has improved but sometimes refuses to make a pass in favour for a daft attempt at goal.
We were very close on several occasions, and would nice to see us gain a two goal cushion and go for the jugular.
I don't want to criticise selection, as my old mate Buck points out know one knows what goes on behind the scenes but players like Connor Smith should not be thrown on when it's high pressure. Certainly agree that Abdi and Battocchio need to come in. Hats off to Yeates for trying to adapt to the new system - he's obviously trying to make the best of himself, and on that basis I don't agree that he should be panned as much as he often is on here - but we do have better players in the squad. Might be an element of GZ trying to placate the fans by giving the old guard a chance rather than making wholesale changes, but I don't think there'd be very many complaints from the stands if Yeates was sacked off and Smith was given more time to develop away from the first team.

Yesterday was the best we could've hoped for I think. Whilst it would be nice to kill teams off, the reality of this league is that you don't go to Leeds, win 6-1 and then thump someone else straight away - the Championship's too tight and unpredictable. Very very happy to stumble across the finishing line against a team with a lot of good players in it. Well done boys.

Yes Yeates shouldn't be slated. He's a Watford player who is raising his game. Last week's free kick, and this week's ball into the box for the winner, were class. If he keeps improving then he deserves his place.

Overall, pretty but gritty team display getting the results we deserve. Loving it.

If we sign Abdi, Forestieri, Vydra, Pudil, Geijo, Ekstrand and Neuton on permanent deals by January ill be extremely happy! That with our academy stars of Murray, Smith and Hoban having big contracts is a Pozzo master class!
I just hope some of the drifting fans start coming more as we need regular gates of 15,000+ so we can get the East Stand we so desperately need!
If we can get ourselves right up there in the top 4 by the new year then that can only help get more fans in!

It's not a love-in - just recognition, after all the mindless slagging, that Yeates has raised his game significantly. he didn't do much wrong yesterday (certainly less wrong than Chalobah and Pudil) and he did a lot right. We are winning games with attractive football, the defense has really tightened up, and the owners seem to be the real deal. Just enjoy it.

i dont think we can underestimate the impact that this lad will make,it shows the footballing world literally,that we have made a statement for the future direction of this club- as if that was in doubt.
I can see this being the first of many top worldwide kids joining the academy, following in the footsteps of young Panos.
With our european links which gives us credibility Harefield is a very attractive proposition for English speaking international starlets.

Nick Cox Head of Academy is rumoured leaving to take up a post at Sheff Utd.

Sheff Utd have split their Head of Academy role into two, coaching and admin, Nick potentially has the Admin role.

Whether he has jumped or pushed, with Watford now signing international stars the likes of Panos Armenakas, we need someone with more international experience running our academy, as no doubt more special international youngsters to follow.

Cat 1/2/3/4 doesn't matter, investing in players on 5 year deals, signing Panos, our Academy is clearly here to stay regardless of status, let's get right person at the helm

One thing for sure no matter what your opinion Is of a player, and we all have them, no way should that manifest on match days at the game, We are there after all to support anything less is not being a true supporter.

Not only English speaking! If I were the parent of a "wonderkid" from Europe or South America, I think I'd like the idea of my child studying, and learning English, in a place near London, all while learning also to be a good player, with people known for being good in making players "grow well".
Probably Pozzo's scouting newtork already had in past similar wonderkids under eye, but offering them an English college is different from offering transfer to a relatively unattractive town in North-East Italy (having to learn Italian), so no chance.
The sinergy between Pozzo's scouts and Harefield Academy can be something really good.

It never ceases to amaze me to witness the vitriol poured by our own so called supporters on our own players not only in these posts but also more sadly at the ground in a match. Loach was a very sad instance of this. He fell from the exalted position of being an international and worth several million pounds to not even getting on the bench at Ipswich and of no real value. Undoubtedly a major factor in this was that when he made a number of mistakes and lost his confidence, instead of encouraging him he was openly barracked by some of our supporters. This in fact destroyed him to such an extent that the club was forced to tranfer him without a fee and now he seems unable to regain his former form.

All supporters are free to have their opinions on how any player played on a particular day but they should not systematically seek to destroy a player and lead to him having to lose his place in the team. We now know well that if Gianfranco Zola has selected a player that will have been for his own good reason which we may not always appreciate but, as such our team's jersey is being worn. Could we please desist from barracking our own players in future and apply all our energies in supporting this wonderful talented team whom we are privileged to watch.

No TRUE supporter would ever barrack any of their own players during the game. It's collectively the most sickening thing I have ever seen at the Vic in some 35 years.

Every player has good and bad games and every supporter is entitled to his opinion but reserve it for the pub afterwards. Players are humans too with human feelings...how can you expect booing and moaning not to affect their on-pitch performance. You are just exacerbating the situation making them play worse (as was perfectly illustrated with Loach). It mirrors the treatment Nigel Callaghan received.

Mooney was never a 'gifted' player but he played above his abilities because of the extra support he received being the fan's favourite at the time.

I know we need the bums on seats if ever we are going to get the East Stand, but truthfully, 11,400 genuine fans are worth more than 11,500 with 100 booers. The extra revenue is not worth demoralising individual players and, by extension, the whole team.

One of the biggest problems with Yeates is his ability to be consistent, His decisions and first passes are often the wrong ones but he can cross a peach of a ball but not often enough, but fair play if he's working his cods off for the team.

Yes booing one's own players stinks but it isn't a new thing.
My Dad started taking me to Watford in the 1946/47 season and as a 9 year old I didn't understand why some of the crowd were booing a Watford player.Dad explained that the centre forward (Len Dunderdale) had been a good player before the war but had lost it in the lost 6 seasons.They were obviously as braindead then as some people still are.Football changes but the people on the terraces dont apparently.

I agree with most of this quote and have certainly not ever booed or barracked one of Watford FC whilst at the ground.
However after the match I am afraid they are fair game ! and I will have my opinion wether it be in the pub or on forums like this.
And in my opinion yes Yeates has made a few contributions over the past few weeks and fair play for that, but I would much prefer to be shot of him as soon as possible as down the line he will cost us like he did at Cardiff. He has a very high opinion of his own abilities ,is selfish and quick to aportion blame to others but never aknowledge his own shortcomings.
If this was last season then I would be prepared to suffer him a bit longer. But this is now and we have plenty to take his place and he is just causing selection problems without ever really grabbing the shirt and making it difficult to take off him.Look at the amount of clubs he has been at and failed at all of them , its no coincidence . Hope he proves me to be a complete muppet !! but would rather not take the chance.

Panos Armenekas, if he signs, is Australian so learning english will not be a priority, getting him to speak it properly might be though.

I was in Cardiff that day and just walking up the steps into the stadium and witnessing that sea of yellow was breathtaking and the result crowned a perfect day. But a few Leeds fans offered congratulations but the main supporters only offered abuse and the fact we couldn't sell all our allocation of tickets. But the result last week was fantastic. Wolves was a different kettle of fish and we had to dig deep to get a result and the cross by Yeates was a cracker for Deeney.

Danny Graham could be leaving the Swan's in Januray, I think we should get him on loan with the view to buy. For me, the best striker we have had at the Vic for years. Danny's movement uo front with the supply from FF, Chaba, etc good be very exciting :)
