Phil Dowd to referee Watford's FA Cup third round trip to Premier League champions Manchester City

Premier League referee Phil Dowd has been selected to take charge of Watford's FA Cup third round trip to Manchester City on Saturday, January 5.

The FA have released the list of match officials for the third round ties and the Staffordshire-based official has been put in charge of the match at the Etihad Stadium.

Dowd has taken charge of 16 matches this season, issuing 61 yellow cards and three reds to date.

He has yet to officiate in a Premier League match involving the champions but did take charge of their 4-2 home Carling Cup defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.

At least with a second string ref they are less likely to be star struck, spending the day being nice to their chums and giving them soft pens.

I don't think we need to be too concerned about this referee, he is one of many in the premiership who don't know the championship players. He will be talking to the Man Cty players and calling them by their first names and trying his best not to upset them and Mancini. If we are on our game I am sure we will really push them.

I'd rather have Attwell, could get a favour off him....or two. Doesn't matter who we get, let's concentrate on our boys. Bit of a non story really, just makes it look like our Cup Final.

Just watch him being very cosy with the City players in the tunnel before the game.....!! Disaster ......if the Police .don't knick me could I use the "P "word........ hang on they used it !
