• After a goalless first half, Watford won 3-1 thanks to goals in the second period from Troy Deeney and a Matej Vydra brace.

• The Hornets began the day in sixth place and three points ahead of their opponents.

• Gianfranco Zola selected the same side that was due to start in the postponed Boxing Day game against Bristol City, meaning Ikechi Anya comes in for the suspended Marco Cassetti. The fit-again Jonathan Bond and Fernando Forestieri are both on the bench.

• Former Hornets winger Will Buckley was ruled out of the Seagulls side through injury. Former Vicarage Road loanees Tomasz Kuszczak and Liam Bridcutt both start, with Will Hoskins among the substitutes.
