Watford Grammar School for Boys student Joseph Lister achieved a new personal best of 4.34 metres in the pole vault on Sunday placing him second in the UK for Under-17s.

Lister won the contest at the London indoor competition and having only been pole-vaulting for two years looks to have a bright future in the sport.

The 15-year-old trained hard right through autumn and winter with his coach Egryn Jones at Brunel University, despite having to deal with his father Craig battling a life-threatening cancer. The hard work paid off at the event and he’s doing himself and his family proud.
