Watford’s 4-0 victory over Huddersfield Town on Saturday ensured the Championship’s leading away scorers also became the highest scoring team in the division.

The Hornets have now hit 53 goals in 27 games, three more than table-topping Cardiff City and fellow top-six side Crystal Palace, who have both netted 50, having played a match more.

Gianfranco Zola’s men are now the third highest scorers in all four domestic divisions, behind League Two leaders Port Vale (56 from 27 games) and Premier League pace-setters Manchester United (57 from 23 games).

Matej Vydra’s fourth successive brace in as many league starts moved him on to 16 goals for the season and up to joint fourth in the Championship’s individual scoring standings, alongside new Leicester City signing Chris Wood.

Next in Vydra’s sights is Blackburn Rovers’ Jordan Rhodes, who has netted 17 times in the current campaign, with Burnley’s Charlie Austin (20 goals) and Crystal Palace hot shot Glenn Murray (22 goals) leading the way.

However, the Hornets are the only Championship club to have two players in double figures, with Troy Deeney’s first-half penalty moving him on to 11 for the season.

Three of Watford’s four goals on Saturday came after the break and an analysis of the timing of when they score reveals Zola's side are far more potent in the second half of matches.

The Hornets have netted 19 times in the opening half of matches this season, compared to 34 after the interval.

Furthermore, 27 of Watford’s goals have been scored in the last 25 minutes of games - although they have yet to register between minutes 76 and 80 - and 13 of these have come in the last ten minutes.

Defensively, the spread of goals conceded is more balanced, with 15 scored by opposing teams in the first half and 22 after the interval.

There is again a bias to the last 25 minutes though, with the Hornets letting in 16 goals in that period and eight in the last ten minutes.

Watford, who will make it three successive league wins for the first time this season if they beat Nottingham Forest on Saturday, need only three more goals to match their league tally from the whole of last season.
