Watford's Easter Monday trip to Hull City rescheduled

Watford Observer: Picture: Action Images Picture: Action Images

Watford's trip to Hull City, which was scheduled for Easter Monday, has been moved back a day due to the Tigers' previous match being re-arranged for TV.

The Hornets will now face Steve Bruce's Hull on Tuesday, April 2, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

The move comes after the Tigers' trip to Huddersfield Town on Saturday, March 30 was pushed back to a 5.20pm kick-off as it will be shown on Sky Sports.

So why not push our match back 2 hours and twenty minutes to 5:20 on Easter Monday instead of 28:45 later, so now it's on the Tuesday our fans now can't travel and make a day out of Easter Monday, but have to either lose 2 days work or not go, smacks of Hull win / win situation. Sky TV really know how to show total contempt for WFC and it's fans, no thought whatsoever, ignorant moronic setup.

Absolute disgrace. With a Monday bank holiday meeting at 3PM we were assured a great following. The vast majority of our fans have no chance of making a 7.45 ko on a Tuesday evening. In what could be one of the most vital games in the clubs history tv is again allowed to dictate.Who gives a stuff about Huddersfield v Hull? The game tv should have chosen was ours!! Hope the club give free coach travel to all fans who can get time off to go.

Fantastic. (Sarcasm). Watford to Hull is a 3 hour drive, around 200 miles. Who is going to be able to make that on a Tuesday night?

On a Bank Holiday Monday, that would definitely be doable. With University/Work/Coll
ege/School there's minimal chance.

It's going to be such a massive game and now our away following is going to be down to three digits.

Surely Hull v Watford is significantly more important than Wednesday v Hull?!

Livid. Cheers Sky. Once again messing Watford up.

What happened with our game being moved to Friday despite =the international breaks finishing the day before?!

Outrageous decision. They are kicking off 2 HOURS later on the saturday. That is nothing. This is just a tactical request by Hull to provide them with a massive advantage in a vital game as there will be minimal watford support. Presumably made after seeing the impact 2500 hornets fans had on the team vs Brum. Seething. No chance of me getting there on Tuesday

Questions really need to be asked about this.
1. Why would Huddersfield Town v Hull City be chosen ahead of Hull City v Watford?
2. Who at sky made this decision and does he have any connections with Hull City?
3. Are Watford going to offer free coach travel to entice fans to travel on a work night on which they will get back around 2am in the morning?
4. Isnt it about time clubs had more input as to this kind of issue.Common sense says our game is vital to both sides and the date should have been allowed to stand.

and gives Hull a massive advantage as so many of us fans will struggle to get there on a work day when planned this one well in advance for a bank holiday.

Statement from our board would be welcome as i personally am also very very annoyed at this change but first looking at our board for their comments before blaming the league !!!

So, this game has been moved from a Bank Holiday on 1st April because Hull City's players will have to play two hours later than normal on the previous Saturday.

Is this some kind of cruel April Fool? Because no footballing authorities, or indeed away team in Watford FC's position, should ever agree to this change for such a ludicrously pathetic excuse.

What next? Steve Bruce doesn't want to miss Eastenders, so the kick-off is put back to 8pm?!

Saying advantage hull is a little out. Yes our fans do make an impact at away games, but the ones that do make the impact are always there week in week out. 500 fans or 2500 fans we will make the same noise away from home. Our players will be even more rested than theirs and will want to pay back the fans that do travel. No need to start pointing the blame at football league or the board. This is football and we have to just deal with it. Let's get up there and cheer them on and just take it on the chin the next day at work when we are tired the adrenaline of a watford win will get us through. COYH

Cant agree with hardly anything hornet88 says. "This is football and we have to just deal with it" Why? In nearly every other aspect of life things are challenged and discussed. If you just accept things as they are nothing will ever improve. "500 fans will make the same noise as 2,500 fans" What will the other 2,000 be doing? You say Hull will not have an advantage. I'd dispute that as Ginafranco would be the first to tell you what a difference the crowd makes. You also say dont blame the football league or the board. Its precisely teh Football Leagues reluctance to take the tv scheduling people on that causes these issue.Yes money as well.

Ridiculous decision ..and I expected better of our club to put out a short statement like they have. I'm hearing free coach travel is being discussed , but that still doesn't answer how we get the time off work when probably most firms Easter leave has been sorted. Hull will be a hostile ground especially if the league positions remain similar , and I remember being attacked in the Play off semi .So we will need some strength in numbers. To put a game back 28 hours when they are kicking off 2 hours late a few days before is pathetic. Come on Watford ..release a statement at least diagree-ing with the situation and show that you actually care about your own fans !!!

Fair comment, and your right. I didn't think before submitting so apologies to anyone affected by the change. I don't think people are lesser fans for not going to every game. Never been a big poster on here because I always see myself getting in trouble for saying something like this. The main point I was trying to get across was that we could stick two fingers up at hull by taking a load of us up there anyway rather than letting them get there own way. I'm sure there are a few people who can now make it to the game because of the change but probably not as many who can't.

COYH[/p]
And as someone who does attend most, thinks this is not a fair comment to those who cannot get time off work School etc, the many who had already booked cheap train tickets in advance. Just because someone does not attend every game or hold an ST does not make them less a fan, possibly a little unluckier.[/p]
I'm sure there are a few people who can now make it to the game because of the change but probably not as many who can't. hornet88

Scandalous decision. One of the biggest games of the season and the smallest of edges could tip the balance.
Having a much larger away following added to only a 2 day gap between matches for Hull would have tipped the odds and if Watford agreed with this it's disappointing. Feel sorry for those who have already booked transport. Poor.

A statement should have been released at the time this information was released. Its time to start making the fans feel valued again. At the moment they dont. We dont want to be made to feel like we are just cash machines for the use of football clubs. This latest decision highlights just how little those in power have for the average fan. This match should have been something to look forward too, not feel angry about. Not one fan has even mentioned cost in the thread but by changing the date and time of the game i bet every single fan who goes will incur extra costs. Its time for the league and clubs to put fans ahead of tv money. Of cause it wont happen because how else are clubs going to pay over rated players such high salaries. No easy answers here.I personally dont know if the cub could have objected to this disgraceful decision.Until someone speaks to us we have little to go on....

Clubs PR is still reactive rather than proactive.

Am totally behind what the club are doing on the pitch but off it there is still sadly rather a lack of communication

For example

What is happening re the south west corner.. thought work was due to start by now

What is the state of play re football league inquiry ... when is decision likely

Would be nice to get the views of Mr Pozzo now the season well underway

I'll try and help you on a few.
South west corner is jointly owned i understand, so an agreement between WFC and NHS trust needed to commence.Watford cannot make dates without agreement.
The FL enquiry? How can the club be responsible for timescale on verdict of a case against them? I'm say pure they'd like to know.
Pozzo statement? I'm sending you lots of great players to push for premiership football, my son is moving to the area to confirm our commitment. I'll give you GFZ and sexy football.
And as for Hull, FL made decision today and it was put out today.
No reds under the bed as I see, lots this time last year though.

Premier League Football...3pm kick off :-) I'm lucky , I'm able to go to 95% + of games as they mostly kick off at the "correct" time at the moment.......so WHEN we go up , I'm probably one of the few that will actual get to LESS games ( apart from the obvious reason that there ARE less games in the Prem).
As we can see above the Hull fans aren't happy about their game v Huddersfield.,.....a
nd as far as I can see Hull haven't announced the ko change in our game yet on their website!!! I suspect some of their fans will be unhappy too.Be interesting to see the ticket prices for the Hull clash. Our club have made a short statement on the change , and to be honest its not good enough. Everyone calm down FFS !

Watford had NO CHOICE IN THIS

So No BLAME on Watford

So rather than waste negative energy on blaming the club lets look to make best of a situation outside Watfords control !!!

I have asked VERY NICELY if Watford would consider giving free coach travel , they are under NO obligation to do so, HOWEVER this idea is being given SERIOUS CONSIDERATION

so all CALM DOWN, stop attacking the club or certain individuals, give them breathing space (this was thrust on them today), and I am hopeful of a good outcome !!!!!

We are all on same side .....

There are good ways to get a good outcome

The club need to lay on free or very largely subsidised coaches to get as many fans as possible up there. The 12th man has counted so much for us in recent outings. Not sure how much it would cost to lay on 40 coaches to get up there but i reckon no more than £20k when the club could possibly gainn £40million by winning that game if we keep on getting the results up until then!

Not sure how much FREE coach travel is going to solve the problem. It's the fact that its been moved from a bank holiday to the Tuesday ..ie people that have to work won't be able to make it whether its free or not.
I would expect the club in the near future to make a statement regarding the reasons ...and did we protest etc and that they have also tried to negotiate a ticket price reduction. Also give us a contact withing the FL so we can ALL complain . This is not any old weekend ..it is easter and some people would have made plans , and already paid out money so that they could see the game on Monday.

What more can the club do then ?

They have NO SAY in the date change, so what more would you want them to consider other than free travel (which has not been agreed, it's just a request at the moment which is being considered) ?

If everyone takes a pot and a wooden spoon it would make a point to the press and FL and those 500 that do travel will make enough noise for 15,000 Watford-James

Hull fans have got the right hump now as west yorkshire police have stipulated that they are only allowed 1,500 tickets for huudersfield and you have to travel on official club coaches so it is not just us who are upset this has messed up a lot peoples plans.
After the way Hull bullied their way in the play off games, I could not give a toss for their woes.

Isn't it our friends from the Football League who make the decision?
just checked and no refund allowed on the train I had booked. I cant leave work till 2.00 from Basingstoke so not sure how I can get there even if free coach travel.
Looks like my first miss of the season for what will likely to be our most important game. GREAT!!!!! Still as long as Hull and the FL are happy who cares about the real fans. See you all at Ipswich!!!
Bummer mate, not fair, and yes we will be loud and proud tomorrow. Bring carrots, so we blend in with locals

Going to take my niece on Monday, as her birthday is 2nd April. Can't take her for an evening midweek game- really not practical. This reminds me of FA Cup QF v Plymouth in 2007, except then we were on TV. The only people not considered were the away fans yet again. An absolute disgrace.

Fair play but if your fans are so bad to have the tickets slashed and to have to go to the match in a bubble why is this game not a early kick off anyway?

On the plus side with us playing on the Friday, it does give our players a bit more rest, possibly preventing the possibility of squad rotation :)

I'm afraid I'm becoming paranoid and a conspiracy theorist when it comes to my beloved club and the football league. As detailed in the Daily Mail today, we have seriously pi55ed off the FL with our loan policy (even though it is within the rules) and I note now they are not only going to change the loan terms but also permanent transfers to stop clubs like ours getting players for nothing with high value sell on clauses.
The FL do not want WFC to get promoted ubder any circumstances and this Hull situation is just another chapter of the victimisation.
I fully expect a points deduction for the Bassini situation even though previous (and worse) cases got off with a fine, which if forthcoming will merely prove my suspicions than the FL have well and truly got it in for us.

From FL

John,

Thank you for your email, your comments have been noted.

With reference to the Hull City v Watford fixture change, this was authorised by The League to ensure that both clubs have equal and adequate recovery time between games. As you are no doubt aware, Watford are playing on Good Friday at 3pm.

Whilst we understand your frustrations, all Football League fixtures are subject to change, and along with TV scheduling, games can be moved at any time due to a whole variety reasons. In this case the movement of the Huddersfield Town v Hull City fixture for live television impacted on the recovery times which lead to our decision to agree to Hull City’s request to defer the fixture with Watford by 24 hours.

It is of course regrettable that any fans may encounter difficulty with travel bookings in relation to this fixture change and we do attempt to keep changes to a minimum throughout a season.

Thank you for contacting The League.

Regards,

Amanda

Check under your bed, for the Reds lurk there.
The FL affirmed Hulls request,of which under their guidelines were obliged to do. It Hull City's FCs doing and has nothing to do with our hearing.
