Gianfranco Zola says Watford will not look to avenge Derby County's 5-1 victory

Picture: Action Images Picture: Action Images

The last time Watford took on Derby County, the Hornets suffered a 5-1 defeat. It was a performance Gianfranco Zola describes as "one of the worst" of his reign at Vicarage Road.

The two sides meet again on Saturday but Zola insists his players will be focused on maintaining their promotion bid rather than looking to avenge the September defeat.

"I think we want to win the game because we are in a good moment and we are fighting for something important," the Hornets head coach explained.

"I don’t want to approach the game thinking about what happened in the first match. I think it is important that we focus and we also have to be determined to win the game.

"We need to be focused in our mind about what we have to do. That is so important for us."

On the heavy defeat at Pride Park, Zola added: "It was certainly one of the worst games [during my time at Watford]. That match we were really bad and we were totally out of the game.

"In terms of the score it has been the worst. We have played badly in other games but in that match we were well beaten."

I was there...very well beaten..however i think that was the game also that made his mind up , After that game he started to leave out the total dross we had in the squad and started to play and bring in the new boys. I can't wait now till Saturdays or Tuesday arrive now !!!

He might say that he's not trying to avenge the score, but I wouldn't be surprised to see us run out comfortable winners this time anyway. Its been almost a whole week since we scored 4 in one game. What are we playing at.

Jason...dross? those guys did their best and the current heroes thanks to Zola were brought up to a level of fitness that was required. How they were ever that unfit defies belief. GFZ then started us playing football.

The 5.1 defeat was also not Nani's greatest day. He sold Tiny to Sheff Wed and left us with no fit centrebacks.

When you look back at the state we were in and where we are now, despite GFZ's rotations. It speaks volumes about GFZ.We now have the same team spirit as last year but with a bigger and better squad. That takes some doing.

Best team on Sat and three points please.

Ok ok Hehe. I like the udinese ending because its not the same as Italy, but it just doesn't fit quite right. I don't mind either way, the only way we can contrast the last lines and keep udinese in there is to sing from udi b. But he would be in their first team I suspect :-)

Udinese works better than Italy as its different from the last verse.
It fits better .In song writing you need to keep the listener challenged LoL
Plus it will wind everyone up.

08 Hogg Booked
16 Murray (Anya - 64' )
18 Pudil (Cassetti - 64' )
22 Abdi
10 Iwelumo
20 Vydra

Yes chris the vic dross !! Those players were unfit due to the fact that abroad they dont have really competative reserves leagues etc and the players brought in needed at least 3 months to get themselves to a decent level and also learn how the championship worked. You can't blame Nani for selling Tiny as he wanted to go as he knew he wouldnt fit in this team and was offered a bigger and better pay day elsewhere.

That day Dickenson was awful so was Yeats and Hogg and Big Chris couldn't hold a door open let alone a football. Murray was a waste of space that day and pudil didnt put a shift in that day either. Vydra was only one that cared that looked like he wanted to play. Even Abdi didntlook good that day as he had no one to play with.

The trouble we have there is a lot of our fans are already challenged, I agree though and disagree at the same time, I guess the best way to find out is when everyone sings it we will know.

loving the Casseti song, sometimes i hate living abroad just for the fact you miss the buzz when we are doing so well, flying back to atch us can be expensive especially at the end or beginning of season or around easter and christmas because flights go up so i have to pick and choose what games to watch.and to be honest ,and this will sound a little gloryhunterish, but you tend to choose the bigger games, but right now theyre all massive, its great when we are live as well and we got a few live games ,big big games coming up which i arrange to watch with a few Watford fans out here, also there a few Cardiff im prper winding up for our game in April, which could be massive by then.
IF we actually pull off what could be our best EVER season and WIN the Championship this year i stand to win enough to actually pay for a season ticket (last time i bought was when we was in premiership,Rookery T91) AND all my flights as well (all home games and a few away)so the fact we are playing so well and getting so many good points away from home is making this an absolutley amazing season for me personally, all my mates here and at work know of these bets(2 e/w and one on the nose) and are all punting on Watford away and cleaning our bookmaker out nearly every weekend lol.
so so proud of us and was thinking ,just how proud will Zola be if/when he leads out the Hornets next season at Stamford Bridge aand Vicarage Rd??? you can see how proud he is now and he admits this, top bloke, top team TOP CLUB!

Looking forward to hearing nd joining in with the Cassetti song tomorrow. Also, We need to improve the song for Abdi as he also needs a decent song. Someone on here posted something the other day along the lines of the following (which was perfect: short and simple)

But I would walk five hundred miles
And I would walk five hundred more
To see the mighty hornets play
And see our Almen Abdi score

(And then the usual chorus)

Almen Abdi
Almen Abdi
Almen Abdi
Almen Abdi

Can we have a hymn book, with all these songs on back of seat! Holly 68 can give the sermons
;-)
I can't take the credit, just saw something similar on here last week, but it definitely works and I personally think Abdi is our best player. He deserves a good song, sung very loud. I'll leave it to the regular away supporters to try and get this one going. LD, over to you.....

If you had posted that last night I would have gladly taken it off your hands, but alas I booked online about 11pm!
Judging by the number of seats available I predict a big crowd though
