Who was your Watford man-of-the-match against Derby County?

Picture: Action Images Picture: Action Images

We saw the other side of Watford against Derby County; the free-flowing football may have been few and far between but there was plenty of grit from the Hornets.

The back three of Lloyd Doyley, Nyron Nosworthy and Joel Ekstrand were only undone by a dubious penalty and whilst the midfield trio were unable to control possession, they did battle hard to secure victory.

Watford missed three glorious opportunities in the first half but Matej Vydra eventually put his side in front with another outstanding finish; his 20th of the season.

We want to know which Hornet impressed you most, so take part in our ballot and explain your reason below.

Not sure why Chalobah didn't make the list. Stand out performance from him.

Agreed, I thought that Nosworthy and Challobah were the pick with Cassetti close behind.

I thought that Nos was awful at the beginning of the season, but what a rock the last few weeks. Amazing yesterday, he must be knackered today. He gave everything.

As a player Chalobah is potentially world class ( and I know potentially is a big word) and should have made the list certainly but for me Nosworthy's performance was superb and he transmitted a reassurance which was useful having an (albeit very capable) young substitute keeper in goal.

Chalobah for me too. Of the bunch, I'd go for Nosworthy. Has established himself as a player to be first on the team sheet. I thought he'd be shipped out this season but has proved me wrong bigtime.

Nah, first on the team sheet is Vydra. Or Abdi. Or Cassetti. Or Doyley. Or Ekstrand. Or that guy on loan from Chelsea. Or.... :)

I actually thought Nosworthy was a bit shoddy in the first half, I guess I must have been at a different game to everyone else!

I have just read in a sunday paper that Arsenal are watching Vydra closely and that Watford want no less than ten million pounds for him

We have four really good centre backs playing for three positions in Hall, Hoban, Nosworthy and Ekstrand!
Then we also have Doyley who gives everything for the club and Cassetti who can play there, so defensively I think we are really really strong!
In midfield we have the best midfielder in the championship in Abdi followed by quality players in Cassetti and Pudil and upfront we have the best pairing in Vydra and Deeney!
When you look at the players we will have on the bench come the final 6/7 games of the season (when everyone is fit) we must have the best squad in this league by a long shot! This rotation and the hunger of the players that play and those that come into the side can seriously mount a charge on Cardiff!
We surely must go up? It depends on how Cardiff react to wether we go up as champions!

thought Ekstrand was good yesterday, as were all the defenders against the same team that gave us such a going over earlier in the year

We have so many top players I forgot to mention Chaloboah!! Most proberbly the second best midfielder in the championship! Lol

It's really hard to pick our best match day squad when all fit, but here's mine:

Almunia
Hall
Ekstrand
Hoban
Cassetti
Pudil
Chaloboah
Abdi
Battocchio
Vydra
Deeney

Subs: Bond, Nosworthy, Doyley, Anya, Fessi, Geijo, Hogg

Fringe: Murray, Yeates, Eustace, Bauban, Mungi Bai, Neuton!!

I know not everyone will agree and I still can't believe Murray isn't in this squad! He needs to sort himself out or he will end up wasting his talents!

Mind you what a side

We'd take 10 million for him and then tell them to talk with Udinese, but I know what you mean.

Reminds me of somebody I once knew who tried to sell their council house.

Anya had a good game. He was MOTM against Brum and I think Pudil has real competion in Anya with Forsyth not too far behind.

Didn't go yesterday so can't vote - long standing commitment in Cornwall, but will be there v Sheffield Wed. The point I'd like to make though is that I thought the attendance was pathetic. With the recent results and entertainment, we should be selling out every week. I plead with everyone to get down the Vic and see the boys over the finishing line. End of sermon

I would like to see Cassetti considered as Captain if Almunia is out for any length of time - he seems to be a mature thinker judging by his recent interview to The Independent

I'd go for Lloydinho. He had a top game, very composed and he's a genuinely nice chap that deserves all the recognition he can get. He represents everything that's good about our club.

Maybe if people had no other priories than going to support their team then the Vic would be full. Missed 1 game in 6 years at the vic, and still find you're comments a little nauseating. Don't throw stones in glasshouses.

There weren't that many Derby there yesterday, so the Watford contingent must have been well over 13k. For a freezing cold and wholly unpleasant day that's definitely a move in the right direction. Certainly the Rookery was busier than it has been for a long time. People are gradually coming out of the woodwork. However, if we can take 37k to Wembley I would have thought a few more would now starting getting down to the Vic to support the promotion push which is now very real indeed.

Guess some people need to read what's published occasionally or we will keep getting this rubbish.

Murray is undergoing extensive specialist training to improve condition and changes to the defensive aspects of his game because just in case you haven't noticed we no longer are playing with wingers, Wingback is not a position that comes automatically and it could still be weeks before Sean is close to the squad and then he will have to be rotated back in as Zola sees fit.

Bringe you really are a fickle person, Murray isn't a winger but more of an attacking midfielder. This is where he plays his best football - well last season he did!
Murray has had chance after chance this season and he has dissapointed all the time! We play better without him!
It saddens me to say that as I like the kid,
So Bringe he's getting extensive training to play footy? WTF are you on it's not hard! The reason why he isn't playing is because he hasn't lived up to his previous billing!
He was in Zolas side first of all and he's dissapointed us! Fact and when he's been given another chance he hasn't taken it!

Winger, wide midfielder, does it really matter? the point is that it's a luxury position with little place in the modern game.
They are converting him to wingback as it suits our tactics more.... his words not mine but obviously we should ignore that and listen to you instead? ... you may as well howl at the moon because I'm having none of it.

Really so Gareth Bale Left sided midfielder that terrorises right backs is a luxury and not of any importance in the modem game? Ronaldo down the left for Man Utd and occasionally Real Madrid... So he's a pointless commodity too? Really Bringe you spout absolute tosh!

Murray right wing back? Ha Ha f'ing Ha! I've heard enough stupid talk now back to your homework little boy!

8:14pm Mon 25 Feb 13

My point is WE play a 3-5-2 and for us that means wingbacks on both sides regardless of what other teams play. We changed it for Citeh and it didn't work, consequently Sean has to learn the position if he wants to play, he said it himself.
Sure if you have exceptional players you can use them to great effect all over the pitch but the days of hanging a man out wide to wait for their chance are numbered. I can't think of anywhere except Britain and Scandinavia where you will find a 4-4-2 used regularly.

If you aren't going to turn up yourself don't moan about others not turning up. I turn up when the football is rubbish or as now brilliant. Snow rain whatever. What other people do is up to them in difficult financial times. It just grinds a little that some vocal loon who feels the attendance isn't good enough, didn't go himself.
