Watford loanee Britt Assombalonga ended his 12-match goal drought by scoring the winner for Southend United in their 2-1 victory against Wycombe Wanderers.
The 20-year-old’s 13th goal of the season, his first since November 24 in all competitions, proved to be the winner and secured an important three points for the Shrimpers, who are just two points below the play-off positions.
In League One, Chris Iwelumo started Oldham Athletic’s 1-0 victory over Portsmouth.
The Scottish international played 66 minutes of the contest before being replaced by Matt Smith. The defeat was Pompey’s 21st league game without a victory.
Carl Dickinson played 90 minutes for Coventry City against Crewe Alexandra but the defender was unable to help his side avoid defeat as the Sky Blues were beaten 2-1 at the Ricoh Arena.
Two Watford loanees faced each other as Stevenage took on Shrewsbury Town. Stephen McGinn played the full match for the Shrews who secured a 2-1 win whilst Steve Leo Beleck was brought on for the Boro with 21 minutes remaining.
In Boreham Wood’s 1-1 draw with Dover Athletic on Saturday, Piero Mingoia was brought off the substitutes bench on 65 minutes but couldn’t help Wood find a deserved winner.
