I don't want to have a go but surely you can see what he brings to the team? He isn't a free flowing footballer and will mess up some moves but he stops so much from hurting us that no one else in the team can do. Battocchio looks like he could fill that role, whilst being better on the ball, but you can't play our football without a player like Hogg to break it up. Can you find a top team without one?

Whilst Hogg was certainly one of the main culprit in the first half for giving the ball away, we just seemed to play too many sloppy balls, failing to keep possession and hoofing it out only for the ball to come straight back. But COYGB's.

Bad comparison but only because I can't compare him to a top teams midfielder, simply because they don't have one.
He conceded possession that led to Wolves equaliser ( yet it was Fernandos fault we didn't win) he put us in danger several times tonight.

I think you are out of order here. The word isn't good however it was meant but apart from a fleeting moment at the beginning, I was absolutely clear in my mind that he didn't mean it that way and said so. Other's extended the discussion for an eternity. I ran out of steam after a while (and said this too) but the next day there were even more posts on the subject.

I have nothing against LD and don't mind the banter but he does pick fights with other's almost every day, mostly in good humour.

Remember, you and your group all know each other personally. I don't know you from Adam so all I and other's can base their thoughts on is what is written. Misinterpretation is therefore rife.

But why bring this up yet again? .....asking for my apology over a week after it was talked to death. You know it will only provoke.

Now someone else uses the word and your silent. Your should pick your fight's alot more wisely. I think you are out of order here. The word isn't good however it was meant but apart from a fleeting moment at the beginning, I was absolutely clear in my mind that he didn't mean it that way and said so. Other's extended the discussion for an eternity. I ran out of steam after a while (and said this too) but the next day there were even more posts on the subject. I have nothing against LD and don't mind the banter but he does pick fights with other's almost every day, mostly in good humour. Remember, you and your group all know each other personally. I don't know you from Adam so all I and other's can base their thoughts on is what is written. Misinterpretation is therefore rife. Be good if the passion showed here and the Vic last night was sustained, I'm sure the players all grew a few inches when we upped the ante!
I think even GFZ looked about 5'4 or was it the heels!?

This ride is nothing like I have experienced since the season I got hooked in 1969. Even when we went to the Prem last time, it was by the skin of our teeth and it was clear that we were were woefully ill equipped. The tin lid was put on it when Marlon King got injured. So consequently, we got our a***s whipped every week.

This time, it doesn't seem like that. We might be only scraping wins at the moment becasue teams are changing their tactic to neutralise us (disrupting the play, targetting Vydra, playing defensively to counter the counter attacks and so on) but the class of football is premiership and would be a match for most bottom half Prem teams. The real achievement is not getting relegated in the first season. That is a real possibility now.

So back to football: Re Hogg, yes I agree he was poor last night, although he is one of those players that will never catch the eye and can go un-noticed when he is having an effective game. That said, Abdi, Chalobah and Battachioooo are a class above. I do think we sometimes miss a bit f steel, a midfield hardman to get amongst everyone when they all play together and we come up against physical teams. Sadly I don't think Hogg is that man for a promotion challenging championship team.
I also want to have a rant about fickle fans; people slating the team when we draw, or when we occasionally lose. Lambasting Zola for not having a plan B, slating Forestieri for not being able to hit a cows backside with a banjo, saying he should be part of an amateur dramatics society, jeeeez someone on here said the other day he was not even championship standard. Who are these freaking idiots? Do they really think we should win 46 games a season? Football is 11vs11, it's a funny old game and sometimes, well, things just don't go your way. If we lose, yes we're disappointed, but all these armchair managers who are up their own backsides and come on here thinking they know better and slating the players and managers really pish me off. 'Zola doesn't have a plan B when we need one' people cry (apparently we needed one against Wolves??? WTF? we would have buried them with our Plan A if we hadn't missed 3 sitters): and anyway, what the hell was yesterday formation change that won us the game? That's a plan B if ever I saw one. I just wish people would stop throwing their toys out of the pram when we lose, and when we draw. Take a look at the bigger picture and chill the freak out and enjoy the most exciting times we've seen at the Vic in a generation.

The bloke and his mate sat behind me last night didn't shut up for the whole game last night. What a stroker this bloke was(IMO, of course!) - I just hope that when I get a ST next year I'm not stuck with someone like him nearby. Anyway he starts going on about Zola needing to be proactive and not reactive? WTF? How can you be freaking proactive in a football game? You set out with your game plan (i.e the usual tactics) and then if it doesn't work, you react to that change, just as Zola did last night. I thought about questioning this chaps comments but remembered the last time when I politely did such a thing when some chump was slagging every member of the team off back in 09 when we were away to Chelsea in the cup, and he kindly offered to take me outside after the game and smash my head in.

Be good if the passion showed here and the Vic last night was sustained, I'm sure the players all grew a few inches when we upped the ante!
I think even GFZ looked about 5'4 or was it the heels!?

And if we all knew each other outside of this impersonal web thing, whilst we'd all still have a go at each other, it would be a lot friendlier.

This ride is nothing like I have experienced since the season I got hooked in 1969. Even when we went to the Prem last time, it was by the skin of our teeth and it was clear that we were were woefully ill equipped. The tin lid was put on it when Marlon King got injured. So consequently, we got our a***s whipped every week.

This time, it doesn't seem like that. We might be only scraping wins at the moment becasue teams are changing their tactic to neutralise us (disrupting the play, targetting Vydra, playing defensively to counter the counter attacks and so on) but the class of football is premiership and would be a match for most bottom half Prem teams. The real achievement is not getting relegated in the first season. That is a real possibility now.

Sweet. Now you guys have made up, I would like to formally announce the end of 'Monk gate'. So back to football: Re Hogg, yes I agree he was poor last night, although he is one of those players that will never catch the eye and can go un-noticed when he is having an effective game. That said, Abdi, Chalobah and Battachioooo are a class above. I do think we sometimes miss a bit f steel, a midfield hardman to get amongst everyone when they all play together and we come up against physical teams. Sadly I don't think Hogg is that man for a promotion challenging championship team.
I also want to have a rant about fickle fans; people slating the team when we draw, or when we occasionally lose. Lambasting Zola for not having a plan B, slating Forestieri for not being able to hit a cows backside with a banjo, saying he should be part of an amateur dramatics society, jeeeez someone on here said the other day he was not even championship standard. Who are these freaking idiots? Do they really think we should win 46 games a season? Football is 11vs11, it's a funny old game and sometimes, well, things just don't go your way. If we lose, yes we're disappointed, but all these armchair managers who are up their own backsides and come on here thinking they know better and slating the players and managers really pish me off. 'Zola doesn't have a plan B when we need one' people cry (apparently we needed one against Wolves??? WTF? we would have buried them with our Plan A if we hadn't missed 3 sitters): and anyway, what the hell was yesterday formation change that won us the game? That's a plan B if ever I saw one. The bloke and his mate sat behind me last night didn't shut up for the whole game last night. What a stroker this bloke was(IMO, of course!) - I just hope that when I get a ST next year I'm not stuck with someone like him nearby. Anyway he starts going on about Zola needing to be proactive and not reactive? WTF? How can you be freaking proactive in a football game? You set out with your game plan (i.e the usual tactics) and then if it doesn't work, you react to that change, just as Zola did last night. I thought about questioning this chaps comments but remembered the last time when I politely did such a thing when some chump was slagging every member of the team off back in 09 when we were away to Chelsea in the cup, and he kindly offered to take me outside after the game and smash my head in.

Their was a bloke across from in row GG who was effing and blind at every misplace pass,now i am not against using bad language but it has got to be used in the right context but this guy was just distasteful to the extreme and it was pointless.On another note the atmosphere the second half was cracking at times/

Have to question this... The year we last went up we finished third, 14 points above the mahusive Wolves in seventh. We blew Palace off the pitch in the first leg, eased into the final, and then produced one of the most psychologically charged performances I've ever witnessed from a Watford team. We'd one the game in the tunnel! That season we played some great stuff, in addition to the long stuff. However, losing King for most of the season was a disaster, and flogging Young to Villa summed up the struggle. Despite that, I remember one pundit observing that if games ended at 80 minutes Watford would have finished 17th. It showed how much we tired, and how we just didn't have the quality to carry us through games.

Next time will be different.

Yes, point taken. But when teams go from the Championship to the PL, they usually HAVE to reshape their team. I remember when Bradford went up, their manager at the time said that he had no intention of buying any players and I remember thinking "well, you'll go straight down again, won't you?". And they did.

I don't want to be too partizan about this and I am trying to keep a level head but I think we are currently a lower PL team playing in the Championship. So, much of the work is done, assuming that we can keep most of them. That's why I think we are much better equipped this time than last.

This ride is nothing like I have experienced since the season I got hooked in 1969. Even when we went to the Prem last time, it was by the skin of our teeth and it was clear that we were were woefully ill equipped. The tin lid was put on it when Marlon King got injured. So consequently, we got our a***s whipped every week.

This time, it doesn't seem like that. We might be only scraping wins at the moment becasue teams are changing their tactic to neutralise us (disrupting the play, targetting Vydra, playing defensively to counter the counter attacks and so on) but the class of football is premiership and would be a match for most bottom half Prem teams. The real achievement is not getting relegated in the first season. That is a real possibility now.

Have to question this... The year we last went up we finished third, 14 points above the mahusive Wolves in seventh. We blew Palace off the pitch in the first leg, eased into the final, and then produced one of the most psychologically charged performances I've ever witnessed from a Watford team. We'd one the game in the tunnel! That season we played some great stuff, in addition to the long stuff. However, losing King for most of the season was a disaster, and flogging Young to Villa summed up the struggle. Despite that, I remember one pundit observing that if games ended at 80 minutes Watford would have finished 17th. It showed how much we tired, and how we just didn't have the quality to carry us through games.

Yes, point taken. But when teams go from the Championship to the PL, they usually HAVE to reshape their team. I remember when Bradford went up, their manager at the time said that he had no intention of buying any players and I remember thinking "well, you'll go straight down again, won't you?". And they did.

I don't want to be too partizan about this and I am trying to keep a level head but I think we are currently a lower PL team playing in the Championship. So, much of the work is done, assuming that we can keep most of them. That's why I think we are much better equipped this time than last.
