Watford boss Gianfranco Zola believes Fernando Forestieri has been “massive” for Watford this season and is delighted the forward received the break his hard work deserved.

The Argentine striker hadn’t netted for Watford since November and missed two glorious opportunities against Wolverhampton Wanderers but his second-half double fired the Hornets to a 2-1 victory against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.

“Fernando just needed a break to convert all the good things that he’s been doing in training sessions and today he got that and I’m very pleased for him,” Zola said.

“He has been massive for us this season.

“Fernando started very well at the beginning, then he had an injury which kept him out for three weeks and Matej Vydra came in and did very well – fantastically well I would say – and Fernando had a little bit of a problem.

“He didn’t play as regularly as before but he kept working and in training he’s been terrific in the last few weeks.”

Give him a game today, up front with Troy. We need to keep him active for the final push.
