Watford Harriers high jumper Matthew Lally sets club record at National Indoor Championships

Watford Harriers high jumper Matthew Lally set a new club record at the National Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

Lally’s jump of 1.94 was a personal best and a club under-17 and under-20 record. Clearing the height was enough for him to take fifth place.

There was a strong turnout from Watford Harriers at the Berkhamsted festival of running with Ben Rochford taking second place in the five mile race.

Rochford crossed the line in 27.11 while Nick Harris was fourth in 30.43. Derek Walker was first in the V50 category with a time of 32.38. He finished just ahead of Thomas Rayner (32.55).

In the ladies competition Helen Johal was second in a time of 35.47. She crossed the line just ahead of Liza Croft (35.50) in third.

Terry Hedge, Graham Mayoh, William Jarvis, Colin Hamlet, Greg Neale, Martin Grimsdale, Ken Haslar, Jill Owen, Emi Economou and Molly Ann Jarvis also completed.

In the half marathon Mikk Bradley was first home in the V55 category in 1.27.14. Andy Angus (1.34.00) was just ahead of Moira Craft (1.34.22).

Angela Halford came home in 1.37.21 and Ciaran Weldon clocked 1.40.33.

Steve Daniel, James Rouse, Nicoleta Economou, Mark Highfield and Steve Hales also finished the course.
