Watford striker Troy Deeney signs three-and-a-half year contract extension

Picture: Holly Cant Picture: Holly Cant

Watford striker Troy Deeney has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract at the club.

The 24-year-old's previous deal was due to expire in the summer and the striker had reportedly attracted the interest of several Premier League clubs.

Deeney has scored 14 goals in 31 appearances this season.

Using his Twitter page, Deeney said: "Can now confirm I am a Watford player for the next 3 years now that's sorted lets get promoted."

The real positive here is that Troy appears to have learnt from his previous misdemeanour and he is a far better player since having time to think about his priorities.
I am pleased that he has shown faith in the club's loyalty to him.
Keep moving in the right direction Troy!

Just goes to show the amount of crap the national media and people not in the know spout out!!

I'm sure he hasn't had a massive wage increase and I'm sure the Pozzos are keeping account of it all, just don't want any players getting above themselves when we can pay more like a certain Mr King did. Don't think the current bunch are like that though.

Was watching the extended highlights of Sheff Weds today and Deeney did some excellent work in that game. Didn't really notice it on the night, but he created many of our chances and he has amazing pace for a big bloke - far more pace than Holt for example. The persistence, strength and pace in making FF's second was brilliant. So, also really pleased Troy has stayed loyal to us. Indeed, he has been a revelation this season since he came back and I think with GFZ's help, as someone else said, if Holt can Deeney certainly can make the transition up. As Troy says, now let's get promoted!

His sheer guts, determination and skill in the lead up to FF,s second goal was a prime example of the Guy.

The boy has done right, he has shown loyalty back to a club that stood by him and got his head down and given us another view on his character which we all agree is the one we want to label him with. I should imagine the new deal will involve a good increase with promotion thus a incentive for him to. I hope Bond also is next on the long term contracts as he has shown he is clearly a hot prospect. Also isn't about time the FL pulled their finger out and sorted this case over our heads out so we know what's going on, as another week has finished!

Really good news he resigned.

I trust if we get promoted all the lads will enjoy a bonus or a new contract but unlike last time if we get relegated their money goes down.

I would hate to see another King or another DeMerit. Yes the very Jay you hailed on his return. Halfway through the last premiership our captain announced he would not be staying if we went down...nobody came in for him and he stayed. Then as his contract wound down he did not accept a ne lower paid contract. Nobody came in for him and then when he wanted a contract times had moved on and the club declined his kind offer.

A lesson to be learnt, but with the Pozzos and Duxbury in control I suspect those situations will not arise.

Nice to see the idiot holloway getting even more rattled...I am sure Zola will use it in a positive way. My other thought on the subject is what sort of manager is he to spend a season in the Championship and not realise we had so many players from Udinese until he read the matchday programme. Nice coverage bySky to show directly afterwards the LOAN player Kevin P and the questionable loan player Zaha...surely the rules must be changed to stop a club getting £12/13m up front and keeping the player.

Back to main item, just read Deeney's interview on the official site. I'm a generally "leopards dont change their spots" sort of guy but Troy seems genuinely remorseful. Fair play to him working with Herts constabulary re younger offenders etc. There is a certain warmth in the vocabulary he uses and I for one am now absolutely 100% happy we gave the guy a chance to redeem himself, not only as a sportsman (in OUR shirt) but as a wider member of society. Well done big fella, but keep it up.

Oh and as for that retard in south london, we could actually have grounds for corporate defemation as I am sure he says " if we did that, we'd be cheating, wouldn't we"? So he has accused us of cheating which he could never justify in a court of law because no rules have been broken. Let's put a shot across his bow now and shut him up for good, by demanding a retraction.
Some say just ignore him but his constant prattling is building up animosity with other clubs and even though it would be totally unjustified I think the FL will consider this when sitting in judgement of the Bassini fiasco. They dont like it but may have let it pass quietly but Holloways agenda is to get us crucified.

Deeney has been a revelation since he came back, he could make an excellent captain for us as he always gives 100% and is a good player/goalscorer too.

Yes I remember quite a few posters saying "we should never have Troy back when he gets out as what he did was too bad".
Nice to see at least one of them is eating humble pie.
Deeney has been a revelation since he came back, he could make an excellent captain for us as he always gives 100% and is a good player/goalscorer too.
Good news he has signed up again, it shows loyalty all round, not always a common commodity these days.

Spot on. This time last year he'd of been financing Bas's new yacht as he moved to Villa Park

Just seen Nos's interview given after the Sheff Weds game. Impressive man and some very well considered responses to the questions being asked. It's what captains are made of .
I like the bloke, but he has not been at his best of late.
I'd like to see maybe Cassetti or Abdi, but saying that, Deeney did a good job Tuesday.
One thing for sure, it should not be Almunia regardless.
Fully agree about Almunia - goalkeeper/captain. Shouldn't ever be a GK in my opinion

There could be a copyright infringement here. The hearing will take place next week but the judgement won't be released until we know how the season pans out....
ha ha very true. Anyway, onthe subject of Deeney, i was screaming for him to be icked out of the club when he was sent down. I am now glad that he appears to be reformed and is also ding the business for the club too. Good luck to Troy - good to see that he and Watford have turned him around.
Yes, I remember some of your more vitriolic comments regarding TD, so really there is no part of his reformation that can be attributed to you, eh ? There were a few more like you but many more like LD and Co who said "get off his back, he's paid a price and give him a fair chance". Your words towards him are weasel words as far as I'm concerned.
I shall not sink to your level my old adversary. I am a Terrahawk. You are Zelda.

Well I must admit I didn't think Troy would be good enough this season and wouldn't have had him back after his 'holiday'. Not for any real moral reason just that I thought he was rubbish. How wrong I was he has been a revelation.
I do think however that Geijo should be given more opportunities and should perhaps interchange with Deeney more. He has more skill but not the strengh and determination of Deeney.

Well deserved TD....don't forget he's gone from Walsall to staying in a team with Graham (PL player) & Sordell (England youth player) and now mixing it with top Serie A players with CL experience.
Much better than some of our other lower league buys..Will.(cough) Hoskins (cough cough)

What are the odds on Deeney celebrating today with a hat trick against Blackpool.

Watford 4 Blackpool 1 Deeney and FF with all the goals.
