Watford Swimming Club clinch gold medal haul at Herts County Championships

Watford Swimming Club celebrated seven gold medals at the Herts County Championships at the Venue in Borehamwood.

The club had swimmers qualifying between the age of nine and 26. Many of the nine year olds were competing in their first major competition.

In the women's 200m breastroke, Robyn Brett won her race while Francesca Peccei took two silvers in her first county championship. Yazzi Brand and Lucy Park picked up bronze.

There were eight personal bests for the club in the men's 200m backstroke with Ollie Taverner winning gold and Jack Spence finishing in second place.

Taverner enjoyed a superb weekend and continued his medal haul with victory in the men's 50m breaststroke.

He also won gold in the men's 200m individual medley (IM) and was first in the 11 year age group of the 200m freestyle.

Matt Williams also won the 17 year old age group of the 200m freestyle while Spence was third in the Under-18 category.

Alison Binns won gold in the 100m fly. Isabel Artime claimed bronze in the women's 100m backstroke while Niamh Burns also finished third in her race.

In the women's 50m freestyle, Burns took silver while Binns earned third place to go with a silver in the 200m IM.

Yazzi Brand achieved a personal best when winning a bronze medal in the 200m fly. Harry Williams finished third in the 400m IM.

In the 100m relay, Williams, Andrew Beveridge, Spence and Luke Jones came third.

Artime earned a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke. Lucy Park earned third spot in her age group. Binns collected another silver while Katrina Beveridge was third in the 17 age group.
