Bushey Meads School pupil Michael Pope victorious at Hertfordshire Indoors Track and Field Championship

An impressive performance from Bushey Meads School pupil Michael Pope saw him claim a gold medal at the Hertfordshire Indoors Track and Field Championship.

Pope, a member of St Albans Athletics club, was victorious in the Under-20 men’s shot put and also secured gold for his F40 Paralympic classification.

Rickmansworth School pupil Chloe McCarthy was also celebrating after she clinched two titles.

After securing victory in the 60m, she returned to the track to compete in the 200m and crossed the line in first with a championship best time of 25.39.

Watford Harriers competitor Yasmin Lakin was first in the long jump with a jump of 5.15 and she went on to take gold in the triple jump with a championship record distance of 11.42.

Watford-born master’s athlete Sue Yeomans was in action in the pole vault and competed alongside Garston resident Louise Kelly.

A jump of 2.65 was enough to seal fourth place for Kelly but Yeomans produced a leap of 2.75 for third which was a European Masters age record.
