LONDON and the south east is set to be hit by intense downpours and possibly thunder later on today (June 20).
The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning and said there could be 40mm of rain within three hours and a risk of localised flooding of water surfaces.
The report comes the day after the government agency predicted a decade of wet summers.
Many parts of the country could hit by the poor weather starting today and it is expected to last for tomorrow at least.
Today the Met’s website warned people to remain vigilant and said: “There is a low risk of isolated thunderstorms breaking out today across central and eastern England along with parts of east Wales, giving some intense downpours.
“These could give 15-25 mm of rain within an hour and 40 mm within 3 hours very locally.
“The public should be aware of the risk of localised surface water flooding.”
