A lot has been made of 'all the foreigners' at Watford but it was six goals from young Academy graduates which helped the Hornets romp to an 8-0 win in their latest pre-season win.

This evening's game with a South Tyrol XI - like Sunday's match - was always going to be about fitness for the players.

But the supporters will no doubt take great joy from seeing youngsters Sean Murray, Bernard Mensah and Britt Assombalonga all get their name on the scoresheet - with Assombalonga bagging a hat-trick.

The Hornets could have gone behind in the early stages as a neat ball was played in behind Lloyd Doyley but the South Tyrol striker fired wide.

Just after the quarter-hour mark, Fernando Forestieri and Troy Deeney combined nicely but the latter was unable to add the finish when one-on-one with the keeper.

Instead it was one of the soon-to-be-confirmed new arrival from Udinese, Marco Davide Faraoni, who opened the scoring in Mals, northern Italy, as he scored with a header.

Cristian Battocchio came close to doubling the lead before half-time but his shot crashed against the crossbar.

It remained 1-0 at the break as the Hornets again made wholesale changes to their line-up.

Murray burst on to the scene as a second-year scholar in early 2012 but he struggled to secure much game time last season despite signing a new long-term contract.

The 19-year-old went on his own training camp before linking up with the Hornets squad this summer and it seems to have paid off as he has reportedly been impressing in Italy.

The local lad scored from a penalty this afternoon to make it 2-0 and he added another with a fine strike later in the match.

Assombalonga made it three soon after the spot-kick, muscling his way through to find space before applying a cool finish.

Mensah added another on 50 minutes before the impressive Murray grabbed his second with a low, driven shot from outside the box.

Anya scored the sixth with a powerful drive after a good pass by Gabriele Angella and Assombalonga, who spent last season on loan at Southend United, rounded off the scoring with two more strikes, the last of which after showing great strength.

Manuel Almunia, Lewis McGugan and Javier Acuna all joined the squad later than the rest which is likely to be the reason why they haven't featured in either game yet.

It is currently unclear why Joel Ekstrand and Almen Abdi did not play although it is likely to be fitness/injury issues.
