Watford's Ross Jenkins and Adam Thompson are both awaiting decisions regarding their futures as trial periods with Leyton Orient and Southend United respectively come to an end.

Both players have been told they can leave Vicarage Road and were left out of the Hornets' pre-season trip to Italy.

Jenkins played the second half of Leyton Orient’s 4-4 draw with Arsenal this week and the 22-year-old also played 67 minutes for Orient during a pre-season friendly at St Albans City last Friday.

The midfielder who has made 95 appearances for Watford, was given permission to play two matches for the O's who will now decide whether to make the deal permanent.

O's boss Russell Slade said after the Arsenal draw: "We were given permission by Watford to play him in two games and for him to train with us and then we'll make a decision."

Thompson meanwhile played in Southend’s friendly against a young West Ham side on Tuesday night and the Shrimpers boss Phil Brown admits a decision is yet to be made on the defender.

“We’ve had a few players with us on trial and now we must decide on whether or not to offer them contracts,” said Brown.

"We have a good relationship with Watford due to Britt Assombalonga coming here last season so we had a look at Adam and he’s another player we’re now considering whether or not to bring in.”

Thompson, 20, has made 16 appearances for the Hornets first team and has also spent time out on loan with Brentford, Wycombe Wanderers and Barnet.
