Kings Langley exit Herts Charity Shield after penalty shoot-out loss to Sawbridgeworth Town

There was a disappointing start to the new season for Kings Langley as they were knocked out of the first round of the Herts Charity Shield on penalties by Sawbridgeworth Town.
Kings had gone in front when debutant Danny Hutchins fired home but a penalty from Anthony James levelled the contest.
Joe Gallagher put Langley ahead for a second time as he finished from close range but James fired home once again to equalise with eight minutes remaining.
A serious injury to Jordan Toomey in the closing stages meant a 40 minute delay and both teams decided to go straight to the shoot-out.
Despite three superb saves from Ant Ladyman, his opposite number went one better and Kings blew their chance to advance into the second round as they were beaten 5-4.
Kings begin their Spartan South Midlands Division One campaign tomorrow (Saturday).
They host Buckingham Athletic before another home match on Tuesday against Risborough Rangers. Sun Postal Sports also get their Division One season underway tomorrow as they take on Stony Stratford Town at home before travelling to Woodson Park on Tuesday evening.
Meanwhile, Wayne Gladdy took charge of Oxhey Jets for the first time as they exited the Herts Charity Shield following a 4-0 defeat against St Margaretsbury.
It has been a disruptive summer break for Jets who have seen a mass departure from the side that missed out on a promotion place.
With Jets in transition it was always going to be a tough task against a side that ended in last season’s top four in the Premier Division.
Jets went into the break 1-0 down but had come close to levelling with an effort from Adam Lowton which struck the bar.
St Margaretsbury took control in the second period and they found the net three times to complete a resounding victory.
Jets’ Premier Division campaign starts tomorrow with a match at London Tigers before hosting Holmer Green on Tuesday.
Berkhampstead crashed out of the Herts Charity Shield after a 2-0 home defeat against Hoddesdon Town.
A first half goal from Robbie Carroll and a late strike from Dave Brewington sealed victory for Town.
Berko start their Premier Division campaign at Hanwell Town before hosting Harefield United on Tuesday.
Leverstock Green were knocked out of the Herts Charity Shield after a 4-3 penalty shoot-out defeat to Harpenden Town.
The game was goalless in normal time but one minute after the restart Ben Edwards put Green ahead.
The score was levelled when Craig Mortimer converted a spot kick and in the shoot-out it was Town who held their nerve.
Green kick off their Premier Division season tomorow with a home game against London Lions.
Hemel Hempstead Town get their Southern Premier Division season underway tomorrow with a Herts Charity Cup first round tie against St Albans City.
