Algeria defender Essaid Belkalem to join Watford team-mates tomorrow

Essaid Belkalem is set to link up with his new Watford team-mates for the first time tomorrow.

Udinese’s sporting director Cristiano Giaretta confirmed at the end of July that Belkalem was going to join the Hornets.

Watford head coach Gianfranco Zola this afternoon told the Watford Observer that the Algeria international was expected to land in the UK today and should attend his first training session tomorrow.

Last week Zola stated the Hornets beat a few “very important” European clubs to the 24-year-old’s signature.

The back three of Elkstrand,Angella and him looks really good, its a long time since we have had "presence" like that and will/ should make all the difference in getting to the premier league

Agree. Ekstrand, Belkalem and Angella appears to be an awesome back 3 with Doyley, Cassetti and Hoban as back up. Wow! Oh and dont forget Nosworthy and Brown. Let's hope he doesn't decide to change formation, we'll have alot of unhappy centre backs! COYH

So much Pozzotivety at the moment, hopefully this will be a great season as it has all the makings of a good one!
We still need a left wing back to keep Pudil on his toes and another central midfielder - Chaloboah? Anyone heard what's happening with him as he won't get knowere near Chelsea's first team and there hasn't been any bids on him? He would be a great re-loan, he knows the players, fits the style and is Homegrown/UK for match requirements!

All quality teams build from the back and on that point is there any update on a third choice keeper? We certainly have a very strong squad, I still have a hunch that there will be at least one more (possibly two) to join but, ahead of Saturday's game I cannot emphasize enough the need to take Bournemouth very seriously. They have a small but confident young squad, excellent manager, and like all promoted sides have a belief in themselves - as they should. Saturday should be a great game, but never under estimate the ability of the opposition.

Great first choice signing and Zola this year is taking time which he didn't really have last season to see exactly what he needs to plug before jumping on the loan market which is great to see, be even better if we did not need any loans this year compared to last as a contrast but feel that Nathaniel may be back however if he did not sure he would get as much team time with the other competition in place. Re Vydra really mixed about whether we want and need him back, yes he was great but it is really clear we are not his choice otherwise he would be here already so why should we accept him back to progress his career and put him on a shelf without some form of loyalty involved!? Besides we have more forwards than last season so give them a go and support them 100% to do the job in hand, more worried about keeping hold of Deeney if the speculation is correct, don't want to lose him not now.

Not sure why some people should get touchy, but it is possible, or it could be the longer process I suspect of work permits for non-EU players.
Whether he is match fit is something else, but I' ve heard some muslim players alter their training times during Ramadan, or like Anelka, postpone it until after the season ends.

All the same, we need a no no-nonsense defender who can deal with set pieces with the physique of Nossie- I think we would have been PL by now if he didn't get injured playing for Jamaica.

Yeah, everyone is different in how they manage football alongside Ramadan - some players eat small amounts to keep energy, some put it off until after the season, some decide that their career is more important - all completely their decision.

I do think you have a point about the work permits but wouldn't the player normally join up with the club and train with them so that all is ready for when the rubber stamp goes on? Rather than wait for the work permit then have to start the training process.

Yes, I read that, only if Rooney leaves though. I think we could still bring Vydra in on loan after the window closes if Muriel doesn't go.

Sounds impressive but it was just a qualification game against a team from a tiny town is Bosnia.
More significant will be whether he gets any game time in the opening Serie A matches. If he doesn't, will he still make the starting line up for Czechs WC qualifiers in the autumn?
Personally, I hope he's a success at Udinese this year and goes on to great things.

COYH!

Touchy because some people are scared to mention anything to do with religion, Ramadan and/or Muslims.
Once someone does, then the thumbs down appear but when stated it was only an observation and not thought of in a negative way, it was given the thumbs up.
Wish people weren't afraid to say what they think.

Yeah, weird! I just thought I'd give you some moral support, you seemed to be getting your fair share of stick on here.
