Watford defender Adam Thompson has joined Southend United on loan until January.
Northern Ireland international Thompson played in a trial match for the Shrimpers on July 30 against a young West Ham United side.
The 20-year-old has played for the Hornets 16 times but has been told his future lies elsewhere. He was left at home when the first team went on their pre-season trip to Italy and has not been given a squad number for the 2013/14 campaign.
Thompson, who has had spells on loan at Wycombe Wanderers and Brentford in the past, is out of contract next summer.
On his Twitter page, Thompson said: “Happy to have signed for Southend on loan, great club. Hopefully have a successful time there and get some games.
“Thanks for all the best wishes to Watford and Southend fans.”
