Moor Park golfer Callum Shinkwin selected for Great Britain and Northern Ireland Walker Cup team

Moor Park golfer Callum Shinkwin has been selected in captain Nigel Edwards' ten-man Great Britain & Northern Ireland team for the 44th Walker Cup in New York next month.
This will be Shinkwin’s first appearance in the biennial competition against American's top amateurs, with Great Britain defending the trophy after their dramatic 14-12 victory at Royal Aberdeen two years ago.
Edwards said: “We believe we have selected a strong team which includes some of the best amateur players in the world. The players have all competed at the highest levels of the amateur game and will relish the challenge of facing the Americans on their home soil.
“There will be some who are disappointed not to make the team but it is the job of the selectors to carefully consider the players available and select the strongest team they can. We are very much looking forward to what promises to be a great match next month.”
Twenty-year-old Shinkwin beat Walker Cup team-mate and newly-crowned US amateur champion Matthew Fitzpatrick to become the English Amateur Champion just over two weeks ago.
He also recently missed out on a place at The Open at Muirfield by two shots at the final stage of qualifying last month.
The Walker Cup will be played at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, New York, on September 7 and 8.
