Watford Under-18s coach Dave Hughes delighted with attacking intent in 7-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge
Watford Under-18s coach Dave Hughes praised his team’s ruthless streak as the young Hornets hammered Dagenham & Redbridge 7-0 on Saturday.
Alex Jakubiak and Dennon Lewis both scored two while Ollie Cox, Ryan Hope and substitute Mahlondo Martin also found the net for the Golden Boys.
Hughes told the club website: “We were 4-0 up at half-time and we challenged the lads not to do anything other than continue in the same way.
“They can be delighted with the way they were relentless in their search.
"They didn’t give up – when they got the fourth they were after a fifth, then they got the fifth and were chasing a sixth, and once they got the sixth they kept going for the seventh.”
Hughes was delighted with the emphatic scoreline but insists Watford’s young guns will be keeping their feet firmly on the ground.
“From a confidence perspective it can be nothing but beneficial, but we stressed to the lads it’s nothing to get too carried away about," he said.
“There’s still a huge amount of work to do with the lads in terms of their development.
"It’s great for their confidence to win games, but what’s ultimately important is the way in which we do it."
