4:50pm Thursday 5th September 2013 in Sport
Kings Langley maintained their unbeaten start to the season in Division One but they were left frustrated on Tuesday after being held to a goalless draw at home to Southall.
Chances were few and far between in the opening half but Adam Hallissey did threaten with several fine crosses into the penalty area.
Southall had offered slightly more in attack and Ant Ladyman was alert to keep out a Jean-Claude Yabolia shot.
Kings exerted more pressure in the second period. Lee Burgoyne and Hallissey both had efforts on goal saved before Tom Carter saw a strike pushed clear by visiting goalkeeper Gary Jallow.
Kings continued to search for a winning goal and Paul Insley dragged an effort wide in the closing stages.
Their efforts were left unrewarded however, and they had to settle for a point which places them fifth in the early-season table.
Kings were in FA Cup action at the weekend and they advanced from the preliminary round of the competition after defeating Newport Pagnell Town 2-1.
Langley fell behind in the game after Dean Buss converted from close range following good work from John Thorpe.
The home side reacted and equalised when Burgoyne’s spectacular shot found the far corner of the net.
Kings were the better side in the second period but Danny Hutchins had to clear a Town shot off the line with Ladyman beaten.
It proved a vital moment as, with seven minutes remaining, Callum Adebiyi flicked on a corner and Hallissey’s header sealed victory and booked a tie with Wealdstone in the next round.
There were mixed fortunes for Sun Postal Sports in their two Division One matches.
On Tuesday they lost 3-1 against Broxbourne Borough – Sean Sonner on target shortly before the break for Sun.
However, they fared better on Saturday and goals from James Armstrong and Liam James secured a 2-1 victory against Buckingham Athletic.
After a slow start to the season, Oxhey Jets are starting to improve and they took four points from their two Premier Division games.
Jets claimed a 1-1 home draw against Harefield United on Tuesday with Khoury Taylor scoring for the hosts on his debut for the club.
On Saturday, Oxhey won their first game of the season by overcoming Hatfield Town 3-1.
Reece Lyons and Luke Beardsworth netted in the first half and Tim O’Mara added the third before Daniel Bradford scored a consolation.
Berkhamsted notched their sixth consecutive win on Tuesday after defeating London Tigers 3-0 thanks to goals from Connor Calcutt, who netted twice, and James Bent.
In the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday, Berko overcame Harefield United 4-1 with a hat-trick from Calcutt and one from Edward Canham.
Tring Athletic played out an entertaining 4-4 draw on Tuesday against London Colney with Jack Seaton (two), Greg Deer and Martin Skinner finding the net.
There was disappointment on Saturday however, as they exited the FA Cup after a 3-0 loss aginst North Greenford United.
