Watford Under-18s had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Portsmouth in the group stages of the Youth Alliance Cup on Saturday, after conceding a late equaliser.
Portsmouth took a first-half lead through Lewis Horsburgh but the young Hornets drew level before the break when Josh Doherty's free-kick squeezed through the wall and into the net.
Dave Hughes' side started the brighter in the second period and took a deserved 2-1 lead as Alex Jakubiak continued his excellent start to the season, scoring his sixth goal in five games.
Pompey pushed forward in the latter stages and with only two minutes to play, Watford's defence was breached as substitute Conor Chaplin scored to deny the Hornets victory.
Watford's next group match is at home to Crawley Town on September 28.
