West Herts Hockey Club started their season with a 5-2 win against Cambridge University

West Herts Hockey Club got their Premier League campaign off to a winning start as they defeated Cambridge University 5-2.
With Cambridge not yet at full strength due to late arrivals, West Herts capitalised and took control of the game in the opening period.
They took the lead through Aaron Mitchell following a midfield steal from Dan Webster. Mitchell went on to complete a hat-trick with further goals from Stuart Day and player-coach Webster sealing the victory.
West Herts Ladies claimed a 2-1 win at Bromley and Beckenham.
The visitors took an early lead when Charlie Bartlett tapped in a rebound following an effort from Anna McGlaughlin.
The Kent side rallied in the second period but West Herts doubled their advantage when Anna Coppel finished Sammy Clifft’s cross.
Bromley pulled a goal back via a penalty flick but it wasn’t enough to change the final result.
West Herts Men’s Seconds lost 2-1 to Saffron Walden while the Thirds remain unbeaten in 2013 after they defeated Hertford 5-3.
The Fourths went down 1-0 to Royston Seconds and the Fifths lost 5-1 to Winchmore Hill and Enfield.
The Sixths and Sevenths took on Rickmansworth Thirds and Fourth and completed 4-1 and 4-2 wins respectively. Elsewhere in the ladies section, the Seconds suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Luton Town while a depleted Thirds side were beaten by Cheshunt Seconds.
The Fifths were in friendly action and lost 3-0 to St Albans.
