5:40pm Thursday 26th September 2013 in Sport
If Ron Cornish and John Abraham’s tenures at Bovingdon Cricket Club are combined, the duo have racked up more than 100 years.
And on Saturday, their loyalty and dedication was honoured by the club.
President Cornish joined Bovingdon 40 years ago and took more than 600 wickets with his spin bowling, while past president Abraham, who made his debut 60 years ago, is Bovingdon’s all-time leading run-scorer having accrued more than 21,000 runs in his long career.
Both now assist with the running of the club alongside helping with the umpiring and scoring of games.
The duo were presented with commemorative books containing the highlights of their illustrious club career and Cornish was presented with the Natwest Hertfordshire ‘Behind the Scenes’ Outstanding Service to Cricket award.
In addition to the two guests of honour, the club held its annual awards ceremony, presenting Gareth Roberts with the League Player of the Year award and announcing Sean Gatehouse as Sunday XI Player of the Year.
