Watford Harrier Matthew Hall flew the flag for Hertfordshire at the English Schools Multi Events Finals last weekend and managed to produce a string of personal bests.
Hall, who goes to Parmiter's School, is only 15 years old but was competing in the Under-17 Octathlon.
He improved on his best results in the discus (31.71), 400m (59.95), high jump (1.70m) and the shotput (8.74m) while also excelling in the long jump (5.52m), javelin (27.36m), 100m hurdles (13.81) and 1500m (5.52.18).
That gave him a personal best overall score of 3729 points which was close to a club record for his age and puts him in the top 50 in the UK.
Elsewhere, the Harriers had five finishers at the Moor Park 10k on Sunday.
Corey Keane led the way in 16th overall and second in the Under-18 age group with a time of 40.11.
Maurice Keane (44.12), Steve Daniel (44.20) and Simon Pearson (46.10) finished in the top 100 while Colin Hamlet wasn’t far behind with 50.09.
A large group of Harriers also took part in the club’s week-long annual training trip which this year was held at Harmans Cross in Dorset.
The total mileage was around 75 miles for those that did every session while Julian Critchlow managed more than 100 miles for the week.
The group took part in climbing, hill runs and beach sessions as well as races which were won by Matt Adcock and Steward Dearman, who was also named athlete of the week.
