Gianfranco Zola praises Fernando Forestieri after impressive display during win at Huddersfield Town
6:06pm Saturday 5th October 2013 in Sport
Gianfranco Zola believes Watford scoring their equaliser immediately after Huddersfield Town’s opening goal was the key moment in today’s 2-1 win and praised “the best man on the pitch” Fernando Forestieri.
Huddersfield started the game strongly and took the lead through Danny Ward’s header but Forestieri equalised immediately with a superb volley.
Watford went on to control the match and should have scored more than the one additional goal, which came courtesy of Daniel Pudil.
Zola said: “I thought it was a good performance. The only disappointment was we had so many chances in the second half where we should have killed the game off before. Other than that, I can only pick up on the good performances at the back, in midfield and also up front.
“I thought Fernando Forestieri was the best man on the pitch today - he was a handful - but everyone was on a good level.
“It is just a pity we couldn’t score a third goal.”
He added: “I thought we were very poor at the beginning. Our passing was not good enough, not many people showed for the ball and they took advantage. They started better and scored the goal so the key was Fernando scoring straight away and that made it easier.
“From that moment on I thought we were in control.”
“They had a couple of chances but the only way they could [trouble Watford] was getting the ball to the wide areas and putting balls in which in this country is difficult [to defend] even for an organised defence.
“If we had taken our chances before then we would have suffered less [at the end of the match].”
Further reaction from Zola, including more on Forestieri's display, and the views of Huddersfield boss Mark Robins will be uploaded on Monday.
