Sean Murray praised but disappointment for Watford teammate Lloyd Doyley after Jamaica World Cup defeat
Sean Murray’s attacking contribution was praised after Republic of Ireland Under-21s drew 0-0 in Romania in their UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifier last night.
The Hornets midfielder played the whole game and had a chance in the 49th minute but saw his shot blocked.
Afterwards, Irish caretaker boss Harry McCue told the Football Association of Ireland’s official website: “Sean Murray did very well from an attacking perspective and tormented them all night.”
Hornets teammate Connor Smith also started the Group Six qualifier but was replaced after 77 minutes following a knock to the shin. However, he is expected to be available for Ireland’s return game against Romania on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Lloyd Doyley played the full 90 minutes as Jamaica’s remote chances of qualifying for the World Cup were ended by a 2-0 defeat in the USA.
The defeat ensured Winfried Schafer’s side will finish bottom of their six-nation CONCACAF qualifying group.
Jonathan Bond was not involved in England Under-21’s match-day squad as they beat San Marino 4-0 in their Under-21 qualifier on Thursday evening.
