Fan group The 1881 meeting to discuss atmosphere at Vicarage Road
4:51pm Wednesday 16th October 2013 in Sport
Hornets supporters group 'The 1881' is holding a meeting on Friday to assess the first few months of the new singing section at Vicarage Road and it also hopes to create a few new chants in the process.
The 1881 was formed by Watford fan Roy Moore in the summer and has been backed by the club who helped create a singing section in the Rookery End next to the South-West Corner of Vicarage Road.
The group has helped improve the atmosphere at the ground and is meeting at Vicarage Road on Friday night at 7.30pm in an attempt to improve things further.
Moore said: "We feel it is the right time to speak to fans in a non-match-day environment and speak face-to-face about any concerns they may have. It is also an opportunity to share experiences of atmospheres of days gone by and put forward ideas about how they believe The 1881 can help create a better match-day experience for all fans.
"The heads of The 1881 will speak about our thoughts of where we were last season, where we are now and where we would like to be over the next few seasons.
"A real coming together of fans, young and old, is what we believe is needed to achieve this as we realise that Watford Football Club is very unique in its fan base but what lies beneath is a passion and desire for an atmosphere that has been lacking in recent seasons and one that has laid dormant even if the football on the pitch cries out for it.
"The 1881 are a supporters group that can see the potential and wants all fans to come together and be a part of something that we hope creates an atmosphere that we can all be proud of."
Moore added that he hopes this will be the first of these meetings and plans to trial some new chants at the gathering on Friday night.
