Stunning display sees Watford thump Hatfield in Herts/Middlesex Three
6:40pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in Sport
Watford RFC produced one of their best performances in recent years as they thumped local rivals Hatfield 71-12 in Herts/Middlesex Three.
Supported by a bumper home crowd, the hosts were in control from the kick off. Strong work at the breakdown from the pack produced a penalty but Tom McGee fired wide.
Soon after however they broke the deadlock as Richard Yates went over with a break from his half and then Adam Creed and Dave Kingsford both crossed in quick succession.
Hatfield showed resilience and enjoyed a period of pressure but Watford’s superior scrummaging got them out of trouble.
The home side then secured the bonus point as Luke Hammill crossed.
Hatfield reduced the deficit before the break after a series of drives on the line finally broke the whitewash.
After the restart, Watford produced a scintillating 40 minutes of rugby which resulted in seven further tries.
Greg Reeve, Ollie Hopkins, Andy Lee and Paul Dunlop touched down while Hammill, Kingsford and Yates secured their braces.
