West Herts thrash Harleston Magpies 4-0 in Premier A
6:20pm Thursday 24th October 2013 in Sport
West Herts made it five wins out of five in Premier A with an emphatic 4-0 win over their closest rivals Harleston Magpies.
The Stags were in sparkling form and took the lead early with a well-aimed Dan Webster drag flick from their first penalty corner.
Magpies were industrious and had a degree of cohesion but West Herts’ defence remained patient and transferred the ball well before bursting out with pace and skill which constantly troubled the visitors’ defence.
Webster doubled the lead with a mirror-image strike of his first goal and Stags went into half-time in the ascendancy.
The third goal came after a reverse-stick cross was met at the far post by Iain Gordon.
Webster was denied a hat-trick when James Dyson added a final touch to the goal-bound ball after a jinking run by the Stags’ player-coach had split the Suffolk side’s defence.
The Ladies took on Harleston Magpies Seconds and also took three points, fighting back from 2-1 down to run out 3-2 winners.
The Magpies were two goals ahead early on and it wasn’t until the second half that West Herts found their rhythm as Becky Perry netted from a penalty corner.
Soon they were level as Jenny Morris was on hand to follow up after Perry’s shot was saved.
Harriet Preest clinched the points for West Herts as she bundled the ball home.
