Little Hay's Linda Reeve and Elaine Meagher won the prestigious Daily Mail Foursomes title at St Pierre’s Championship Old Course in Chepstow last week.
Reeve and Meagher, who both live in Wheathampstead, played golf informally for several years at the Little Hay Golf Complex at Bovingdon and two years ago they joined the club permanently.
The Daily Mail Ladies Foursomes is a national tournament for pairs of players who take alternate strokes at a single ball.
Over a period of around nine months there were seven rounds of head-to-head matches at players' own courses with the winners going through to the next round. Elaine and Linda won all seven of their knockout rounds including a victory over strong pairs from Berkhamsted and Woburn.
In the first two rounds of the final, Reeve and Meagher beat two ladies from Wakefield by 5&3 in the morning and the team from Holsworthy by 7&6 in the afternoon to book a semi-final against Kilmarnock.
The opposition won the first hole and led for most of the match until Little Hay's duo took the lead after the 17th and held on to reach the final.
The final round was against Ely who had stormed through their earlier rounds.
The Little Hay pair saved their best golf for last though and stood up against the pressure to win the match and the tournament by a comfortable margin of 4&2. Reeve said: “The whole event was played in a very nice spirit. At the end we were physically and mentally exhausted
