Following on from the previous week’s success for Jasmine Porter at the Camden Leon Paul event, there was further medal glory for Watford and Three Rivers fencers at the third annual Hertfordshire Senior Mixed Fencing Open in Hatfield on Sunday.
In the foil event, Sebastian Durkan from Three Rivers Young Blades (TRYB) clinched a gold medal by beating Joe Wright from sister club Watford 15-13.
Durkan, 16, and 19-year-old Wright overcame extremely strong competitors in the tournament including former county champions. In the same event Adam Fineman from Watford also won a bronze medal.
In the Sabre event, Tony Bardell from Watford won a silver medal and Patryk Zaremba from TRYB also secured bronze, meaning Watford and Three Rivers fencers took almost half of the total medals available at the tournament.
Bardell also recently returned from representing Great Britain at the World Veteran’s Championship’s held in Varna, Bulgaria.
Watford Fencing Club meets every Wednesday between 8pm and 10pm and Three Rivers Young Blades meet every Monday from 7pm-9.30pm at the Princess Marina Sports Complex within the grounds of The Royal Masonic School for Girls, Rickmansworth.
