Brighton's Nathan Jones: 'Gianfranco Zola is a fantastic manager'
9:53am Monday 28th October 2013 in Sport
Brighton & Hove Albion’s assistant head coach has praised Watford’s squad, head coach and their start to the season ahead of tonight’s Championship clash.
Nathan Jones, who was hired by Brighton in the summer, said: “I’m not surprised how Watford have done this season. They have a very good squad and they have kept their squad together near enough.
“They lost Matej Vydra and Nathaniel Chalobah but they have signed well with Lewis McGugan and the other players they have brought in.
“I know Gianfranco Zola and the way he does things. He is a fantastic manager and they have done brilliantly.
“They will be there or thereabouts.”
Brighton have won just once in their last eight matches, although five of those games ended as draws.
The Seagulls, who finished in the play-offs last season, are currently in 16th place in the Championship.
Jones said: “We can’t dwell on what we haven’t got. We will put out an excellent XI that can compete with Watford. We will be very competitive.”
Brighton have an extensive injury list which includes Leo Ulloa (foot), Kazenga LuaLua (knee), Andrea Orlandi (knee), former Hornets Will Hoskins (cruciate) and Liam Bridcutt (hernia) and Watford-born Craig Mackail-Smith (ankle).
Tonight could see first starts for loan duo Leroy Lita and Craig Conway, who was a transfer target for the Golden Boys prior to Malky Mackay’s departure.
